A banda de norwegian black metal Taake é primariamente o trabalho do vocalista e multi-instrumentista U. Høst, que fundou o grupo em 1993 no meio da insurgência de incêndios em igrejas e outros crimes virtualmente responsáveis pelo lançamento da cena. Recrutando o baterista Svartulv, durante os próximos três anos Høst gravou uma série de demos imersas no folclore viking remoto e em valores black metal cruelmente brutais. Finalmente estreando comercialmente em 1996 com o EP “Koldbrann i Jesu Marg” (contando com o novo baterista/baixista Tundra), o Taake lançou dois álbuns full-lenght, “Nattestid”, de 1999, e “Bjorgevin. …”, antes de Høst deixar a banda para se juntar aos amigos black metallers noruegueses do Ragnarok como vocalista.
