I listen to some Stevie and all is right with tha World. Not many Artists can do that" I agree, and thats the value of music, Literature, poetry, etc I think Little Stevie can Join the Company of Beethoven,Mozart,Handel,Vaughan Williams without feeling in any way inferior..And i include other popular Artists of the Twentieth Century who could join them.I am aware of the hyperbole..yet why not.... The number 1 living legend, bar none.(2)

Will someone let the folks at Motown know that Where I'm Coming From seriously needs a remastering job??

lol I have a soft spot for "I Just Called to Say I Love You." It's infuriating that it remains his biggest hit to date. Its catchiness is undeniable. But it's so saccharinely sweet and the video is just downright embarrassing. Fisher-Price/Playskool telephone and all. Ugh lol

To be honest with you, I wouldn't compare any Characters tracks to "Do Yourself a Favor." Characters is respectable at best, but only contains flashes of the genius that everyone fell in love with. Stevie became over-reliant on now-dated technology instead of the organic textures and instrumentation that dominated his best work. If anything, "Do Yourself a Favor" sounds more like an antecedent to "Maybe Your Baby," "Superstition" and "You Haven't Done Nothin'." Truth is, Stevie hasn't made a great album since Hotter Than July. But his legacy has not been tarnished since because he hasn't been nearly as prolific since. Therefore, he's not releasing mediocrity on a consistent basis which preserves his greatest work's freshness. While A Time to Love was definitely an encouraging step in the right direction, I'm hoping for a true career-renaissance in the coming years. He needs to release an album that is on par with what made him so phenomenal in the first place.

Aisha is, sorry to say, nowhere near the talent that is her father. With that said, "How Will I Know" was one of A Time to Love's standout tracks. While that album is strong, it has some sequencing issues and is overly lengthy. The album sounds bloated. While I agree, that there are similarities between the tracks on A Time to Love and the ones from any given 70s album, most are inferior and derivative of his own blueprint. Also, some of the material is a bit gooey and uncomfortably sentimental. Sometimes he needs to refrain from these "messages" because they border on the cliche and end up sounding preachy and unoriginal rather than the timeless social commentary tracks he cut in the 70s. Since the mid-80s, Stevie the humanitarian has upstaged Stevie the genius songwriter/musician and in some ways he has been coasting by his legend. With the passing of his mother, hopefully the material featured on his next album, if it's ever released in our lifetime, will sound truly inspired.

Seems like everyone's done their homework in Stevie's archives. Since you're familiar with some of his best work[Where I'm Comin From w/Do Yourself A Favor, which resembles some of his other cuts(like Frontline,Skeletons & a few others),Music of my Mind,Talkin Book, etc., it shouldn't be difficult to hear likenesses in his latest work 'A Time 2 Love].There are some gems on it as well. When I first bought it, I couldn't get past the first song 'If Your Love Cannot Be Moved'. The message is so profound and neccesary, as are most of Stevie's message songs. I especially find some of the jazz-influenced cuts soothing(Moon Blue,True Love&Sweetest Somebody I Know). I 1st saw Stevie perform Shelter In The Rain on a morning TV Show. On the track Positivity, you'll hear Stevie's daughter Aisha singing with him. Listen to the entire cd and see if you can recognize similarities to some of Stevie's earlier songs. Hint, one of them has a groove like Birds Of Beauty from Fulfillingness' F.F.'

I have never seen him live either. Everyone I know who says it's an incredible experience. It would be an absolute privilege to see him live, and at 59, he's definitely not getting any younger haha.

Vocally, I think Stevie reached his peak around the time of the Fulfillingness' First Finale/Songs in the Key of Life era. His phrasing, delivery, and breath control were absolutely impeccable. Arguably, "Feeding Off the Love of the Land" is the embodiment of this triple threat.

Yeah, Fulfillingness' First Finale, which never gets the attention it deserves, is also my second favorite. It was in fact, my introduction to Stevie's music aside from the radio hits of the 80s, so naturally it maintains a special place in my heart. It's so disheartening to see that it often forgets to be mentioned when recalling his masterpieces. It's always Talking Book, Innervisions and Songs in the Key of Life, but Fulfillingness' First Finale is always absent during roll call. I'd even reserve a seat for Music of My Mind. Here are my favorites as far as ranking from his "classic" period: Talking Book, Fulfillingness' First Finale, Songs in the Key of Life, Innervisions, Music of My Mind, Where I'm Coming From, and ironically, Hotter Than July. Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants is in a separate league as it is so radically different in nature than his "proper" albums.
