Yes,here here. Fagen / Becker.........mister junior you've hit the nail right on the head. this is why i love these guys like no other. very few have been able to articulate the cynicism as well and make it sound sooo Good. love i love these guys..

This one seems to be the black sheep of Steely Dan's 70s output, which is a shame because it's a great record. The first five songs are all exceptional, but I think "Haitian Divorce" is the best track on here. An album that's positively overflowing with the kind of cynicism that many felt but few could articulate anywhere near as well as Fagen/Becker in the mid- to late-70s.

Nobody mentions "Don't Take me Alive". So sad to read this shoutbox. Good album.

Definitely contains the Dan's darkest lyrics, by far. But, it appeals to the cynic in me. Plus, it's got some really great grooves. I read somewhere that "Sign in Stranger" is like something that Philip K. Dick would have written, if he were a musician. Interesting thought, that.

This and 'Katy Lied' are tied for my favorite Dan albums. 'Pretzel Logic' comes a very close second and sometimes nudges this out, but only very rarely.

Eh. I love Steely Dan, but this is a weaker album for them. Sign In Stranger, Green Earring, Everything You Did, and the title track are all pretty bland. But it's all redeemed by the pure awesomeness that is Haitian Divorce.

I'm in total agreement with Hotterthanjuly and everyone else here. Why is this release generally overlooked? It even seems to be less-appreciated by Fagen & Becker. They even don't seem to like the cover, while I think it's one of the best album cover images ever, even if it wasn't what they wanted or seems a bit incongruous. More complexity, depth and detail here than Aja, I think, especially if you're into songwriting and not a fellow musician or a crazed audiophile.

Can't mess with Kid C. In my opinion, Becker is one of the most underrated guitarists in the rock world.

Hands down, this is my favorite Steely Dan album. Every song on this album is strong from the beginning to the end. There's groove to this album that's hard to duplicate but the funny thing, the next album, Aja, was the best seller and not as strong.
