The Waterboys & Friends - This Land Is Your Land
  • Top 30

    Fev 9 2008, 4h08 por Scott_R

Time to deflower my journal. I found this thing somewhere.

    1. How did you get into 29?

Les Miserables - My dad took me to the show. 24601!

    2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?

Stevie Ray Vaughn - Texas Flood

    3. How many albums by 13 do you own?

Dream Theater - One: Train of Thought. Only DT album I like.

    4. What is your favorite song by 15?

Blind Guardian - Tie between TocarNightfall and Under the Ice.

    5. What is your favorite song by 5?

    Tool - TocarLateralus. No contest.

    6. Is there a song by 6 that makes you happy?

    Kamelot - The Haunting :)

    7. What is your favorite song by 10?

Galactic - TocarChurch(at the moment - still getting into them).

    8. What is a good memory you have involving 30?

Cascada - The good memory is the only reason why I have any songs by her.

    9. Is there a song by 19 that makes you happy?

    Symphony X - Multiple:

TocarSet The World On Fire: Love this song. Hearing it live was surreal. Long live Sir Russell.

The Serpent's Kiss: First song I ever heard from them. Kickass.

The last 4 minutes of The Odyssey

    10. How many times have you seen 25 live?

Black Sabbath - Never, but I will.

    11. What is the first song you ever heard by 23?

The Dear Hunter - The Oracles On The Delphi Express

The album cover attracted my attention, check out their myspace, and was sucked in my the music and the concept.

    12. What is your favorite album by 11?

Pyramaze - Legend of the Bone Carver, but as soon as Immortal comes out, I think that will be the one. Matt Barlow is the best metal singer, full stop. He has never let me down before, so why would he now?

    13. Who is a favorite member of 1?

Porcupine Tree - Surprise: Gavin Harrison

I should probably cut down on the superlatives, but ya, best drummer there is. Check out the Arriving Somewhere DVD or listen to the XM II version of Hatesong, and you'll know why. He's one of the most creative drummers around; a tasteful double-kicker, and a minimalist. Gotta love that Sonor sound.

    14. Have you ever seen 14 live?

Jimi Hendrix - To be alive in the 60's...

    15. What is a good memory involving 27?

King Crimson - It's one of the few bands that both my dad and I like?

    16. What is your favorite song by 16?

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication ... and that's pretty much it.

    17. What is your favorite album by 18?

The Seatbelts - Their first one for Cowboy Bebop.

    18. What is your favorite song by 21?

Big And Rich: Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy brings back good memories of high school volleyball, but I have to go with Wild West Show. They should use more flute. Hell, everyone should use more flute.

Six Foot Town is up there.

    19. What is the first song you ever heard by 26?

Earl Scruggs - TocarFoggy Mountain Breakdown. It's always the first song I play for anyone who bashes bluegrass.

    20. What is your favorite album by 2?

Iced Earth - The Dark Saga. My favourite album ever. If I ID'd the CD rips of The Dark Saga (and all my Tom Waits stuff for that matter), my list would be quite different.

The entire album is, well, words cannot describe it properly. TocarA Question of Heaven is, in my mind, the definitive metal track.

    21. What is you favorite song by 3?

    Epica - Tough one:

TocarSolitary Ground, Chasing the Dragon, TocarSensorium

    22. What is you favorite song by 8?

Stanton Moore - Big 'Uns Get The Ball Rolling

One of my favourite songs to drum to. Stanton is easily my favourite drummer after Gavin Harrison and only one of my top 10 drummers that doesn't use Sonor. Weird...

    23. How many times have you seen 17 live?

John Williams - Does seeing Star Wars in theaters a quadrillion times count?

    24. What is the worst song by 12?

Jeff Wayne - Brave New World. When I find singing irritating, it's very hard for me to listen to the song.

The first CD of The War of the Worlds is absolutely unreal. The second CD is kind of a let-down, and maybe a tad repetitive.

    25. What was the first song you ever heard by 28?

The Doobie Brothers - TocarBlack Water. Good ol' Best Of CD my dad had for driving trips.

    26. What is you favorite album by 7?

Flairck - GEVECHT MET DE ENGEL

I don't know what that translates into, but if I had a guess, "Best Use of Flute by a Progressive Band."

    Check out "De Stoomwals." http://youtube.com/watch?v=-iTQFwFIyk0

Good luck finding any of their albums in stores though. Maybe when I'm in that part of the world I'll have some luck.

    27. What is your favorite song by 24?

Protest the Hero - TocarTurn Soonest To The Sea. Easily. Some of Rody's best work, IMO.

    28. Is there a song by 9 that makes you happy?

Evergrey - Not one in particular.

    29. What is your favorite album by 4?

Ayreon - 01001011 is the tightest from start to finish, but I'll have to go with Into the Electric Castle simply because some of the songs on that album would make it into my top 10 favourite songs of all time (i.e. Amazing Flight, Valley of the Queen's)

    30. How many albums do you own by 20?

Nightwish - One: End of An Era

    Done.

I got some free time (I moved to Germany) and decided to get the scrobbling working with Itunes. It was a very easy thing to get cracking on considering I am no longer behind a proxy. I was interested today seeing what I listened to the most during the past week since I had a lot of time during the day, and also ipod time while running to knock off a good amount of tracks (361, an average of 51 tracks per day!)

I was surprised to see that Bad Religion came in first with 23 plays. I saw them come up a lot in online retrospective lists as one of the most influential bands of the 80-00 years, so I think I put them on during dinner one day and they racked up a lot of plays because of the short song length. Jeff Buckley rolls in at #2 and I have no idea when I listened to him, I honestly could not tell you a word about him. I think him and Jerry Seinfeld somehow came on after I listened to some Jeff "Tain" Watts (an amazing jazz drummer).

Currently listening to Soulive, they fit in a new sort of groove jazz that has developed in the late 90s-early 00s. I would classify them together with Medeski Martin and Wood, Garage A Trois, Lettuce, and Stanton Moore. Sort of a jazz for the new millenium - less melody/improv based, more of a groove jam. Also, I have a ton of respect for an organist that can kick out the bassline with their feet as both of their hands fly around the keys, like Neal Evans of Soulive and Jimmy Smith. And now you can find youtube videos of all these musicians in their prime...music for me is certainly at the top of its game.
