Ghost Mice, August 2007 Coe Lake, Berea, Ohio
I have a journal entry about this already. Was my first show, wasn't that impressive, but I had a great time. Would love to see them again.
Defiance, Ohio, April 2008, The Tower of Treason, Cleveland, Ohio
This is still my favorite show I've ever been too. There were so many kids there and all of them singing and dancing. Everyone was nice. Ryan and Austin from Delay remembered me from the ghost mice crowd and gave me all kinds of stuff (like 3 cds, 2 patches, 2 pins) for eight dollars. I loved it. It was like Reinventing Axl Rose.
Bereafest, July 2008, St. Luke's Church, Berea
This was still a great experience, despite the fact it was right after my mom went to prison, I didn't yet have my license, and my dad was there and mixing coke and vodka. This was the first time I ever really hung out with Tony, one of my now best friends, even though I wouldn't actually like him until September. Still, he hardly knew us and drove us there, not knowing any of the bands, which was awesome, and soon thereafter fell in love with Spoonboy and Paul Baribeau. For myself, I loved seeing Defiance, Ohio that time too. I loved seeing Delay. I cried from joy so many times. Spoonboy was incredible and such a nice person (I actually wrote about seeing him there and this fest for a scholarship, which I got). Paul Baribeau broke my heart in the best way possibly. Lemuria was great. So was every single other bands, but those were the ones I cried over. Although, spoonboy did give me a book on primitivism and this whole experience acted as a catalyst for my bipolar existential breakdown (CAN WE SAVE THE WORLD, WHAT HAS MEANING? *BECOMES SUSCEPTIBLE TO CRIMETHINC LITERATURE*). Still, was definitely great.
Pat The Bunny, Pittsburgh, someone's house, March 2009
This was a house show full of hipsters who mostly were friendly, but a lot didn't dance. The good part? I love Pat the Bunny and talked to him for quite a while. Bad part? I was pretty much the only one singing along. There wasn't very many people either. Oh, and I totally drove to Pittsburgh by myself which was awesome, and this show seemed to mark quite an improvement on my whole social awkwardness anxiety thing. Plus, I brought my friend Deven, who enjoys wu tang clan. and georgios! he was so weird and incredible and writes such amazing poetry and does the best a capella single ladies cover ever. did I mention I'd been trying to see him since the 8th grade? back when he was johnny hobo? he needs to open with stop being so cool, get people to knock it off.
Paul Baribeau and Ginger on their Darkness on the Edge of Your Town Tour, March 2009, Soggy Dog House, Cleveland
This was an amazing night. There is no one better suited to cover Paul Baribeau than these two. I brought Tony, who I mentioned previously falling in love with Paul Baribeau. Yeah, well, he also loves Bruce Springsteen, so it was great. Bruce Springsteen has such beautiful, beautiful lyrics and this was such a great way to perform them. Plus, then we stayed up all night being super goofy and having a generally great time.
Pat the Bunny, April 2009, Soggy Dog House, Cleveland
Not many people were here (could have something to do with the mountain goats playing about half an hour away). It was just me and sam, which was new, and we were nervous, but social awkwardness wasn't so bad, despite we were like 2 and a half hours early. I sat and talked to a girl who's a chemistry major for quite a while. Pat the Bunny actually remembered me. Ian remembered me and complimented me on my tattoo and has a defiance, ohio one too (score for the first time someone recognized my tattoo! and he has a last.fm, is how I met him, may read this, I'm awkward). Still, I want to see pat the bunny and have it be like the times I see defiance, ohio. I like shows with bigger crowds. he is so passionate and incredible, I want the whole room to dance. and I forgot, I fucking loved endless mike. he was so fucking goooood. it was like, john lennon's working class hero, except better.
and as a side note, I hate indie bands with generic lyrics anyone can relate to without having any meaning or depth and all sound the same.
This June, I'm going to see Nine Inch Nails and it'll be my first big show, which should be cool. In May, hopefully going to Toledo to see Madeline and Defiance, Ohio (I am utterly in love with Madeline and I could never get sick of seeing Defiance, Ohio). and in June, Ghost Mice again at the soggy dog house maybe (the owners there are awesome too)
I have met so many awesome people and they were all great.
bands I still want to see? Michael Jordan Touchdown Pass, Chris Burrows (yeah right, someone fly his hobo self to the us), Against Me!, this bike is a pipe bomb.
The nicest musicians I've met? Pat the Bunny, Austin and Ryan, and Hannah. Austin and Ryan were by far the most outgoing, pat the bunny was incredible to talk to (I really want him to meet my dad, the man with 3 college degrees who has lived off of people's trash), and hannah is just so sweet. Also, Paul Baribeau let me take a picture with him, and he said he normally never does, plus complimented me on my paul baribeau shirt. even though said picture looked like crap because apparently large amounts of sweat at bereafest makes me break out into rashes and I looked like a super creeper and he looked very, very angry. Spoonboy was so sweet, too. mostly everyone I've met was awesome.
