O Soulive marcou presença no Festival de Jazz e Blues de Rio das Ostras tocando basicamente o repertório de No Place Like Soul. Na banda destaca-se tudo, desde a guitarra nervosa, funkeada de Eric Krasno, a bateria e teclados dos irmãos Alan e Neal Evans e o convidado - a figura marcante de Paul Toussaint Yeshua nos vocais. O Soulive é uma banda que assume as influências setentistas e incorpora Jimi Hendrix, Brown, Earth, Wind & Fire e toda a música negra numa releitura groove. É a mais autêntica black music, funk, fusion, jazz jam, vocalizada pela comovente figura de Toussaint, sempre acompanhado de seu cajado hastafári. O teclado de Evans nem deixa notar a ausência do contrabaixo e o substitui plenamente. Impossível não balançar a cabeça ao som do Soulive. O som penetra pelas entranhas e bate direto no peito fazendo o coração mudar a pulsação. O Soulive é a mais grata surpresa musical desta década.

Can't beat the Evanses and Kras-ditty. Saw these guys at the Double Door in Chicago some months back. If ye haven't seen 'em live, ye haven't fully appreciated 'em.

BOW! what a band. i first recognized them on a dj mitsu set, but there was an mc on a track called clap!. but hey they remind me at scoffield or henderson in a funky modern way. i'd loved to see them live.
