Brush-fires of the Mind is the only album by Jon Schaffer’s heavy metal solo-project Sons of Liberty. The album was released on the project’s website on December 18, 2009, to download for free if you sign up for the Sons of Liberty newsletter. It is also available as a high quality download, however, this one is not for free. All music and lyrics were written by Schaffer himself, he also plays all guitars and sings lead vocals.

The album is a concept album about corrupt world leaders holding the rest of the world in slavery. It is a subject that Schaffer holds close to heart, as is shown on the bands website where there are links and references to literature dealing with the subject. Between some of the songs Schaffer quotes, among others, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln. Also, there are several speeches heard by various modern world leaders.

And just to conclude my thoughts (and in a more general sense), never be afraid to go against the grain & think for yourself, even if it means challenging/altering/adjusting everything you once thought was Truth, and even if it goes against everything you were taught in school or lead blindly to believe by the media and your own government. Although I can't say I agree 100% with all of Jon Schaffer's theories or political views either, I strongly admire him for his courage to think outside the box and be honest & blunt about such controversial subject matter -- let alone the fact that he had spent countless hours, days, heck even WEEKS researching this stuff non-stop! And believe me, once you start researching & digging deeper into the practices of these fraudulent, corrupted, outright EVIL Bankers & CEOs who have pulled the strings & destroyed your once proud nation... you will see just "how deep the rabbit hole goes". /ENDRANT :D

Can't believe how relevant these lyrics are -- even moreso presently than when the album first came out. What was blown off as conspiracy theory, right-wing, kooky, wack job, [insert any harsh adjective here] nonsense is becoming conspiracy FACT. I'm Canadian, so I view America's politics & history from a more external, academic perspective. My Southern friends -- If it does not *remotely* disturb you that your Nation has a 16.7 TRILLION dollar debt, than wake the hell up already, put down your McDonald's fries, & turn off your Reality TV & Celebrity gossip shows and do some research. Sorry if that sounded harsh, as that is not my intent at all! :P

You know what, if he was singing about battling dragons and shit nobody would be saying anything about the lyrics, but when you sing about liberty and expose fascism then you're a kook. Well fuck that ignorant shit, this is a great album and the lyrics just make it a whole lot better. Well done Jon.

The lyrics are able to be sung and they get the message out loud and clear. Exactly the purpose. Amazing stuff - I can't get enough - it's quite reassuring that others out there believe the same about so many things. Not many of the people I know will even TOUCH on the subjects covered... so sad. Anyway, I just recently looked em up on FB, too; Gotta spread the love around. ^^
