This album is probably their worst effort I've listened to so far, but the p4k review is just bad and the 0.0 rating makes me lol because it isn't THAT bad.

No where near as bad as some make it out to be, but the lyrics kind of suck. The atmosphere is rather eerie, but it sometimes gets boring.

This album has a kind of neutral sound... It reflects no emotions, just a continuous drone.

"The Pitchfork review does seem like a white-wash (Lord Widgery?..),a hatchet Job, in retrospect. To give this album no merit whatsoever makes me question pitchfork's motives. It may have been done by committee, an editorial decision taken in advance to make ghosts of Sonic Youth. Pitchfork might prefer that Sonic Youth remain representatives of the past. Past masters of a Golden era in music history according to Pitchfork. Their continued presence and ability to define and redefine their own work and their own context disturbs PF's editorial overview of music. It's as if Sonic Youth's refusal to die spoils (pitchfork's) misty eyed view of a canon they want to assemble, define and guard through lists and revisions. Go away and leave us with Daydream Nation and Sister etc. they might say." Yeah? Then why did they give Murray Street a 9 and Sonic Nurse 8.5?

First thoughts in my mind after listened this album are: "What was it..? Where was I..?" It's total trip. Dark and madness. Amazing work. Maybe one of their strongest among "A Thousand Leaves", "Washing Machine" and "Confusion is Sex & Kill Yr. Idols"

Oh, by the way, Pitchfork reviewers you should rather keep on listening to Kanie West... Indeed.

This album is clearly underrated. Of course it's not the best SY release but there are some pure gems on it. Some tracks are among the best SY tracks. We should just consider it as a "different" record, like Meat Is Murder for the Smiths.
