Top 10 songs::
1.Life's A Glitch
(
Versus the Night/There Is No Such Place As Away)
-One impressive and touching song from the best metalcore band in Japan (maybe in Asia). Versus The Night only last for a short period with one studio album and one ep. When I was in University in Beijing, I always listened to this album when I returned from l'alliance francaise. At that time, Metalcore is still not as popular as New Metal. I thought this one was death metal, but the melody was awesome. Last week, I finally recovered this part of my memory when I found this song again. Three or four years will not make any difference for me. I am still keeping fighting with the smothering night.
2.Victoria's Secret
(
Sonata Arctica/Winterheart's Guild)
3.Jailbreak
(
Sonic Syndicate/Eden Fire)
-Possibly one of the best MDM bands in the world, SS only kept their energy for one album. What a pity!
4.Hearts Into Fire
(
Bullet For My Valentine/Scream Aim Fire)
-Another band I've known for ages. This song is the one song that totally change my viewpoint of their 2nd album - Scream Aim Fire. I especially love this song's mv.
5. My Mind's Eye
(
Sirenia/Nine Destinies and a Downfall)
-Just like Morten Veland said, this is a lady's song. As Sirenia is a band which is specially good at changing, this melodic song has helped Sirenia to be one of the most famous gothic metal band in Europe.Last week, I saw them in kingston. It's my second gothic metal gig(the first one is
Lacrimosa, which is also my first gig ever!). Today, many gothic metal bands have combined with many female-fronted bands in different music styles. They are bound to rule in the near future!
6.Promise Me
(
The Birthday Massacre/Nothing And Nowhere)
-Another band I've known for years, and this time, I even forgot their name. But I still remember the melodies of most of their songs in Nothing and Nowhere. If I had a chance, I would recommend all the songs in this magnificent album.
7.The End of Heartache
(
Killswitch Engage/The End of Heartache)
-This song has a text-book metalcore style in programming and everything about this band(the album cover, the voice, the name) prove that KSE is the most typical metalcore band in history. This album in released when I was still in high school. When the CD-seller recommended this album to me, I just knew nothing about this band. After all these years, I know this style is called metalcore. I am not a New Metal fans anymore with many NM bands declining. But KSE has become even stronger. They never hesitate and time proves they are always in the right direction!
8.Missing
(
Flyleaf/Memento Mori)
- Flyleaf released their second studio album this week. When I listened to this album, the title "Missing" caught me at the first moment becoz it reminded me of another song by Evanescence with the same title. From the start, this song renders me a mixed feeling. Female Gothic Metal has declined these years and American New Metal bands with female vocalist like flyleaf have become more and more popular. I still miss Tristania, TOT, The Gathering, Sirenia(old), but I also like the female-fronted metal bands from the new generation. Something's missing in me , I felt it deep within me.
9.Swallow
(
Emilie Autumn/Opheliac)
-My favourite song for EA and this is also the also song I love in her album Opheliac. I also recommend another EA album "Enchant", which has a better neo-classical atmosphere compared to this electro and industrial one.
10.Blut Im Auge
(
Equilibrium/Sagas)
-Equilibrium is the best Viking Metal band in my eyes. Blut Im Auge is the song that can burn every drop of my blood inside out. Shake your heads , and follow me to the bonfire beyond the sky!
Bonus Track:
Gray Sublime Archon
(
Eluveitie/Slania)
-In the fierce movement of NWOAHM, Viking Metal also has created their new and powerful sub-genre "Folkcore". Eluveitie has changed from a decent Viking instrumental band to a brilliant Viking metalcore band. They are definitely promising in the world stage.
