  • 50 Questions About Your Top 50

    Set 6 2008, 7h58 por yara_gilmore

That title says it all, really. I saw it somewhere on last.fm (for the life of me, I can't remember where), and since I'm a bit bored, I thought I'd make this my first journal entry. *trumpets!* Oh, and before I begin: these are of course the charts of today, they might change over time. I haven't had this profile for very long, and the charts are also a bit off, because I've been on a holiday and moved, like, four times... Bear with me.

    1. What's your favorite song by 15?
Snow Patrol - I hate that I have to make a choice here... I guess I'll go with Run, because that's the song that got me into them in the first place, and even though I've listened to it a gazillion times, it can still make me cry if I'd let it.

    2. How did you get into 20?
Maxïmo Park - I'd heard the bandname buzz around for a while before I actually heard one of their songs. It was Our Velocity, I think, and I was addicted straight away!

    3. Who is your favorite member in 1?
Acda en De Munnik - Well, there are only two :p. I guess I'll go with Thomas Acda, because he also does some acting on the side, and he has impeccable comic timing. Plus, a rather thick Amsterdam accent, which I love.

    4. Whats your favorite lyric bit by 29?
    Kristin Chenoweth -
    Taylor the latte boy!
Bring me java, bring me joy!

    5. Have you ever seen 22 live?
Klaxons - Sadly, no. I'd love to though.

    6. What's your favorite album from 10?
Dr Horrible cast - Technically, there isn't one (yet!).

    7. Do you own any merchandise from 3?
Kate Nash - No. I do love the 'Kate Nash? What do I know? I'm a mouse' T-shirts, but they're way too big for me.

    8. What is a good memory you have of 7?
David Gray - Oh, so many! I've seen him live twice and he was just brilliant, I love him so much. Also, cycling home in the snow to Disappearing World. Magic, I tell you, magic!

    9. Is there a member of the same age as you in 2?
    Sondre Lerche - Nope.

    10. When did you first get into 8?
Regina Spektor - A friend of mine was really into the song Samson around the time that Soviet Kitsch had just come out, and then I got curious. so I downloaded (God have mercy on my soul) the 11:11 album, and I fell in love straight away.

    11. Who likes 4 along with you?
Jason Mraz - I'm almost embarassed he's that high up, but I just love singing along to his songs, especially when I'm cooking or doing the dishes, they're so damn catchy! Anyway, a former classmate, Laurie, is absolutely obsessed with him.

    12. Which song did you first hear from 16?
Interpol - Slow Hands. A friend said I had to hear 'this hot new thing'.

    13. What song made you fall in love with 5?
    Coldplay - Yellow. Good times...

    14. Which song do you not like by 18?
Carla Bruni - I must admit, I don't listen to all of her songs, just the ones that caught my fancy straight off the bat, like Raphaël, so I don't really have an answer to this one.

    15. Why do you like 14's songs?
Franz Ferdinand - They're catchy, the lyrics can be both silly and serious.. Pure entertainment. Plus, they were my first step into the world of British guitar bands (well, okay, after Coldplay). I'll owe them that forever.

    16. Where did you first hear 6?
Gomez - On a holiday a veeeery long time ago. It must've been around the time that Bring It On had just come out, because my brother had just seen them at Pinkpop, bought the CD, and insisted on it being played constantly, along with I Am Kloot. Annoying little sister as I am/was, I kept whining that his music was boring and I wanted to listen to Robbie Williams (in my defense, I was young, and Sing When You're Winning is a pretty good album, so shut up). Of course, I found myself falling in love with Gomez (and I Am Kloot, come to that) despite all my struggling.

    17. How long was 19 a singer before you liked them?
The Postal Service - Oh boy... I honestly can't say in what year I started to really get into them... I guess about two years ago, which would be 2006. Last.fm informs me that The Postal Service started out in 2001, so that would make it five years. Wow. That's... Slightly embarrassing.

    18. Does 13 have a song that gives you a bad memory?
Muse - Hysteria. Mind you, it's not their fault, I love that song to bits. Anyway, I was going to see them live at Pinkpop a couple of years ago, and on the day it was finally going to happen, my parents suddenly said I was too young to stay at the festival that late when there was school the next day (I think I was 15/16). So as I walked out of there, they started playing Hysteria on the main stage. I was angry and sad and INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATED. Haunts me till this very day, especially since I missed them again two years later. But that's a story for another time.

    19. When did you get into 17?
Unkle Bob - Quite recently, someone on Livejournal recommended it to me.

    20. How long have you been into 9?
Death Cab for Cutie - I started listening to their music when A Lack Of Color was used on The OC, then I kind of lost track of them for a while, and then, a few months before Narrow Stairs came out, I fell in love all over again.

    21. If 11 had a concert 300 miles away, would you drive there to see them?
Turin Brakes - If I had the means and the time... Absolutely. I love Turin Brakes, but they never seem to leave the UK, if they go on tour at all.

    22. How many CDs do you own of 12?
Kaiser Chiefs - Two. Because they only have two.

    23. Does 21 have a song that makes you cry?
The Weepies (oh, the irony!) - The World Spins Madly On, but a lot of their songs are kind of melancholy.

    24. Does 27 have a song that makes you happy?
Marike Jager - Yes! Hide And Seek and Fling Flack Toodah! Insane in the brain, they think it should be treated! Well, I don't think so, doctor, I'm just hard to understand!

    25. Does 23 have a song that makes you smile?
Damien Rice - Amie. It's sort of nostalgic, I love it.

    26. What's the last song you've listened to from 28?
The Wombats - Let's Dance To Joy Division

    27. Is there a song by 32 that you've listened to more than 30 times?
Psapp - I think I must've listened to Hi or About Fun more than 30 times, even though that wasn't scrobbled.

    28. What is a song from 50 that you've only listened to once?
Ben's Brother - ...Any song, except for Stuttering (Kiss Me Again)/Kiss Me Again (Stuttering). Seriously, which one is the right title?

    29. Is there a song you are sick of hearing by 24?
The Beatles - Let It Be. I used to be in this choir, and we rehearsed it over and over and over, until I got sick of it. As I got older, I joined another choir... And they sang it too. I even had a solo. Sigh.

    30. What song got you into 40?
    Ghosts - Stay The Nights.

    31. What is your favorite single by 25?
The Wombats - Let's Dance To Joy Division. I don't really like any of their other singles... I know I'm alone on this one, but I just like this song and Tales Of Girls, Boys And Marsupials. Please don't shoot me.

    32. If 49 hated you, what would you do?
The Shins - Wonder what the hell I did wrong, they seem pretty peaceful to me.

    33. What would you say if 42 or one of the members from 42 asked you out?
Editors - Well... There's a bit of an age gap.

    34. Would you care if 41 had a boyfriend/girlfriend?
Ghosts - Couldn't care less, really.

    35. Who has the best voice in 46?
    Joshua Radin - ...Yeah.

    36. Do you think 26 is/are good looking?
Air Traffic - *googles* Yeah, I guess they're alright.

    37. How many times have you listened to your favorite song by 36?
Maroon 5 - Oh boy. I don't really have a favourite song, but I used to really be into them a few years ago, I had that CD playing on a loop at my house for months.

    38. How many CDs do you own of 30?
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly - Two. Downloaded, sadly, but I will make up for that soon.

    39. Is there a song from 38 that makes you mad?
    Patrick Watson - ...No.

    40. Which member from 31 do you want to see go solo? If 31 is only one artist, what would you do if they joined a group?
The Last Shadow Puppets - I love everything Alex Turner's done so far, so who knows... But I like both Arctic Monkeys and The Last Shadow Puppets, so I can't say I crave for him to go solo or anything.

    41. What does your favorite song from 48 remind you of?
Amy Winehouse - Back To Black. Well, of a mistress whose lover has gone back to his wife/girlfriend and is miserable because of that. Not really original, but, you know.

    42. Did you hate 43 at first?
Arctic Monkeys - Nope. The first song I heard was A Certain Romance, and I quite liked it, so I decided to check out the rest of the album.

    43. Does your best friend also listen to 33?
Air - I don't strictly have one best friend, but no, I think I'm alone on this one. Can't say I mind, though.

    44. Do you think your parents would like 37?
Eric Hutchinson - My father would quite like him and whistle along from the kitchen, probably, but I think my mother would think he's a bit boring and poppy.

    45. Does 47 have a song that makes you want to dance?
Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - Not really dance, but more or less bob along, sure.

    46. Have you ever seen 34 in person?
    Justice - Nope.

    47. Do you like 44's name?
I Am Kloot - I don't know what 'kloot' means in English, but in Dutch it means 'balls', or, technically, 'ball'. I don't know if it's intended, but it makes me giggle like a twelve year old.

    48. Is there someone in 45 that you want to go out with?
Radiohead - They're brilliant and all, but... No.

    49. Do you know anyone that hates 39?
Belle and Sebastian - Not personally, no, but I'm pretty sure there are a lot of B&S haters out there.

    50. Have you ever danced to a song from 35?
Solo - No, their songs aren't exactly fit for dancing.

    Set 4 2008, 12h11 por cmumusicnetwork

    THE BASICS:

    * The CMU Social is the monthly networking and showcase night for readers of the CMU Daily, the UK music business' biggest and most popular daily news service.
    * On Tuesday 9 Sep the fifth episode of the CMU Social will feature performances from two of CMU's favourite new artists of the moment, Josh Weller, fresh from supporting The Maccabees on tour, and The Deer Tracks, who will be performing their first UK gig to showcase their debut album, 'Aurora'.
    * As well as the music, the CMU Social is a real opportunity for music business people to meet, network and generally socialise - or prove their pop trivia knowledge with the CMU Pop Quiz (past winners include Sunday Best, something in construction and Olswangs/Glastonbury).
    * On top of that, there's a happy hour and well-priced food available from 7pm to 8pm.
    * Entry is free to CMU Daily readers, who just need to email the names of themselves and their guests to social@cmumusicnetwork.co.uk. Tickets will also be available on the door for £5

    MORE INFO:

    CMU ON THE SOCIAL
For nearly ten years CMU has been reporting on and writing about and bigging up all kinds of great new music. Among the artists to get some of their earliest coverage in CMU over the years include Stereophonics, Eminem, Snow Patrol, The Dandy Warhols, Delays, The Streets, Franz Ferdinand, Scissor Sisters, McFly, Kasabian, The Killers and Arctic Monkeys to mention just a few. To mark its tenth year, CMU launched its own monthly night meaning we can now not only talk about but also showcase the new bands we're most exciting about – and just three months in we’ve had some storming sets from bands and artists like Vessels, Maths Class, Sportsday Megaphone, Big Strides, Penny Black Remedy, A Human, RestLessList and Infadels. And this month, we'll add two more brilliant bands to that list.

    CMU ON JOSH WELLER:
Josh Weller has been a firm favourite at CMU ever since we stumbled across him by mistake at The Secret Garden Party a few years ago. His catchy tunes, great lyrics, eclectic tastes and amiable personality make him instantly likeable. Comparisons have been drawn to Elvis Costello and Randy Newman, which should give you some idea of the songwriting pedigree we're dealing with here. He takes time out from new recording sessions to be with us, and with only moments to catch his breath after returning from Bestival.

    www.myspace.com/joshweller

    CMU ON THE DEER TRACKS:
Our first international CMU Social band, The Deer Tracks join us all the way from Sweden to showcase their recently-released debut album, 'Aurora'. The album is a mix of epic electronica and glacial cool, with an emotional resonance not normally association with such a sound. The album has been spinning in the CMU office so much that we're slightly worried that the laser might burn through the CD. So, we’re delighted to be able to see them in the flesh.
