In my continuing spirit of stealin great ideas I figured I'd stash great albums of the year here, as they happen.
Consider it organic best-of list cultivation as opposed to the inhumaine forced production of a list some time around late december when I should really be out buying my loved ones christmas presents.

So what has been knocking my upside the ear'oles so far?

Infinite Body

Granular ambient textures in the vein of Tim Hecker/Belong though i have to say more on the Belong side of things which is fine by me as I love October language and am still awaiting a follow up.

Balmorhea

Now this was a pleasant surprise. After the last Balmorhea effort was a little too far into the domain of rockin and bigger on the peaks in more traditional post rock way, along they came and floor me with a subdued, intimate offering of mostly piano and strings. Look forward to hearing this one remixed too, like last year's.

Their previous album appeared on alot of Classical bestofs for that year, but I found the electric violin, well, just plain bad sounding. Here I think i can still hear it being used but it is tethered and muffled by atmosphere it swims in. I thought of eluvium alot when listening to this (pre the singing album). Its quite dense so demands further concentrated listening but definitely a highlight so far.

Got this in our inbox a few weeks ago (yeah sometimes we're slow on submissions). That gave Brooklyn’s Psychobuildings enough time to put out another great song and evolve from Peter LaBier's solo project to a trio that includes Peter Schuette of Silk Flowers and Juan Pieczanski of Small Black. Their music is pretty new wavey, something like a modern Talking Heads with more of a focus on electronics.
Psychobuildings 7" is due out next week on All Hands Electric, pre-order it here. Here's the B-side 'Paradise' and a new track:
