Silver Jews é uma banda estado-unidense de indie rock, formada em 1989 pelo escritor David Berman juntamente com Stephen Malkmus e Bob Nastanovich, ambos do Pavement. Algumas vezes considerada como um projeto paralelo do Pavement (o baterista do Pavement Steve West também foi membro da banda), na verdade “The Joos” formou-se antes do Pavement. O álbum The Natural Bridge (1996) não contava com nenhum músico do Pavement entre seus integrantes, dando aos ouvintes um som mais calmo, sem a inconfundível influência do vocal e guitarra de Stephen Malkmus.
Silver Jews foi sempre considerada um condutor para o sarcasmo e o indie rock rústico característicos de Berman, tendo ele permanecido o único membro constante.
A banda produziu diversos álbuns, sendo o mais recente Tanglewood Numbers, lançado em 18 de outubro de 2005 (Drag City). As letras sofisticadas de Berman dominaram a música da banda e sua reputação diante da crítica. Berman sempre foi perseverante em sua quase completa recusa em tocar ao vivo, e dessa forma surpreendeu o público indie ao anunciar uma turnê do Silver Jews pelos Estados Unidos, Europa e Israel, em 2006.

xspikex try either Bright Flight or The Natural Bridge, I personally prefer both of them to American Water by quite some way. Bright Flight is slower-paced, more country-tinged and with higher production values, while The Natural Bridge is slightly rawer and indie rock-ish. Both are aces!

Also as they said earlier on, they get a lot of crazy people through who think they are the messiah etc. So I guess they don't want people crying all the time, it might set off some alarms with security.

I think he became overly emotional about the whole experience in Jerusalem, at that very point. It was the stick that broke the camels stick, so to speak. Yeah he had to pay, or donate. But I guess he's been through a lot with his alcohol problem etc, and turning to Judaism was his way out. He had probably been building up to that moment for a long time.

I watched the movie last night and couldn't tell if he was mocking the "pay to find god" thing or not. It was an uncomfortable part of the movie for sure. I feel bad if he was moved to tears over his experience and here I am questioning the merits of the people selling him god. It just seemed way too weird to be that powerful... while one guy hastily pulling the straps off his arms and the other guy saying "no crying"...
