I find elements of this album inspired by coldplay

Well, whether Sigur Rós have their "own sound" or not, this album just sounds (to me) more mainstream than everything else they've ever made. Yes, this is definitely different from their previous work, but somehow this "new sound" of theirs makes them sound just like any other band playing acoustic songs... I like the album more now, but I still feel it's their weakest piece of work so far, because it's not as imaginative as their previous stuff. I guess I just like the "epic" Sigur Rós better than the current "acoustic" Sigur Rós :| Each one to its own, right?

The new album is the only one by them that I like, but it still has a lot of excesses (the two 9-minute songs). Solid stuff, though.

"doesn't sound like Sigur Rós at all"... what exactly IS Sigur Rós? I wouldn't respect a band that could be pinned down to some 'sound'. If every album a band makes sounds the same then what is the point of having more then one album? I expect a blue pen to be the same colour as the last blue pen I got, I don't expect or want the next album I get to be the same as the last album I got.

Bollocks to the epic stuff. Takk was boring, every song had practically the same structure. This is one of their strongest releases because it embraces new ideas, and thats what keeps a band good. I would like to see Sigur Ros fully embrace the pop-song aesthetic, as they do on the first two tracks, since Takk proved they could never top the (good)epic post rock of Agaetis, a change of style is surely the way forward.

I've tried, but I simply don't like this album (as a Sigur Rós album). It's an OK album, but it doesn't sound like Sigur Rós at all. But hey... At least it's different from what they've done before. I still hope they'll go back to what they do best on their next album, though. We need those epic songs back! Fingers crossed...

i find it funny how in the course of the album, the mood shifts from sunny, happy happy summer to a moody autumn/winter instead of a whole album with sunny, happy happy feel that i'm expecting. ;p

amazing album. I love how Sigur does whatever they want when post rock becomes full of twinkly-guitared EITS followers. Beautiful stuff.

This album has been evaded: http://evadethenoise.com/2008/07/25/sigur-ros-med-sud-i-eyrum-vid-spilum-endalaust/ (think of being "evaded" as getting a promotion).

Didn't like it at first. Too happy. Then fell in love. These things take time, I guess.

I was a bit worried about this one at first listen, as it went over my head at first listen. It has a different mood to their previous albums, but now it's pretty obvious it has some of their strongest material. "Með suð í eyrum" is definitely one of the best S.Rós songs ever.

It's not as epic as some of their previous albums, but it's still a great album. I love the way they went with this album; it feels a lot more refreshing and less emotionally provocative. In the past Sigur Ros have made emotionally powerful albums but this one has less power emotionally, but it makes up for it in simple sounds that are just so pleasant to the ear.
