So it's the time of the year, when everyone is opening their christmas calendars. I decided to make a playlist which contains songs titled with only the number for each day 'til christmas eve. So on the 1st day I have a song called One, on 2nd day it's song titled Two and so on.

And to make things little more interesting I compiled this playlist using Spotify's search bar and adding songs from artists I have never heard before. Well, actually, I tried to find familiar artists, but because of the limitations to the song titles it was quite hard, so I had to pick up some totally unknown and some artists which I know only by name, but haven't heard any of their songs before.

I'll keep updating this journal each day as days go by and try to write some thoughts about each song. Remember that all these songs are available on Spotify, so if you like you can go and take a listen by yourself.

Okay, so the countdown to christmas starts and here are the songs for each day:

1.12. Korn - One (originally performed by Metallica), from the album Take a Look in the Mirror
Recorded live during MTV ICON: Metallica show, KoRn plays this Metallica classic. Pretty faithful to the original one, only shortened down to MTV standards. KoRn used/uses to play a bit of this during their own live shows.

2.12. Ill Niño - Two, from the album Confession
The first song on my "calendar" that I'm not familiar with. Strong nu-metal presence at the beginning, as yesterday I listened Korn and now this, hehe.
Pretty groovy and melodic song, not bad at all. I might take a closer look at this album later.

3.12. Massive Attack - Three, from the album Protection
Another unheard song. And well, to be honest I haven't missed much. Music is pretty atmospheric, but the female vocals are quite annoying. Artists like Tori Amos or even Björk could have made a song like this with better results. Judging by this song and some other singles I have heard from Massive Attack before, I won't be taking a closer look at them anywhere in the near future.

4.12. Miles Davis - Four, from the album Four
Jazz is one of the few genres that is kinda grey area to me. I appreciate the musicianship and skills of the jazz-musicians, but most of it is just a background "noise" for me. Elevator music. So was this Miles Davis song. When it comes to jazz, I prefer Richard Cheese, hehe.

5.12. Machine Head - Five, from the album The Burning Red
I've heard some tracks from Machine Head before and saw them live last summer. I like them. But this song ain't one of their strongest moments. It's not bad but it's not mindblowing either.

6.12. Chimaira - Six, from the album Resurrection
Intro fools you quite nicely and when the song actually kicks in, it takes a good turn to different approach. Pretty nicely done "math-metal", which at times takes a dive into the pool of cliches, but manages to keep things interesting enough that you'll listen to the whole song. Which is a good quality for a song that lasts almost 10 minutes. I don't like the sound of their singer, but besides that Chimaira sounds pretty good. At least this song.
Oh and happy independence day to my fellow finns!

7.12. Megadeth - Seven, from the album Risk
Ah, good old Dave Mustaine. Although this song is from their weakest album Risk, it's still pretty nice piece of rock 'n' roll. I specially like the ending of this song, when the mood slightly changes and gets this swingy-feeling. Mustaine still rocks even at his weakest.

8.12. Karma to Burn - Eight, from the album Karma to Burn
I've heard some Karma To Burn before, but didn't remember it was this good! Stoner-ish hard rock with kick ass groove. Me likes alot!

9.12. ¡Forward, Russia! - Nine, from the album Give Me a Wall
Now this is a total neverheard for me. The vocals annoy me from the very first second. Jesus Christ Almighty, what is this garbage?! Sounds like a bunch of random chords just whammed out of out-of-tune guitars and then some guy who hasn't reached puperty/mutation yet just screams something on top of it. Yuck, glad that's over with. This song has been the worst one to pop up on my countdown so far. Let's hope there are no bad surprises any more.

10.12. Dept. - 10, from the album X
... Umm, ok. French version of Alexander Rybak? Atleast the singer sounds a bit like him. I honestly can't find anything positive or negative to say about this. I don't have any words at all. Well that I must say that I won't be returning to this album again.

11.12. Primus - Eleven, from the album Sailing the Seas of Cheese
Ahhh, the genius that is Les Claypool and his band Primus. This album is better/best(?) known for the hits Tommy the Cat and Jerry Was a Race Car Driver. This song sounds like insane waltz. Insane in a good way. That's why I love Claypool.

12.12. Twin Method - Twelve, from the album The Volume of Self
Sounds like Linkin Park without rapping and less machines. Not that bad, not that great either. Don't know, other songs might be better, gotta check them out sometime.

13.12. Johnny Cash - Thirteen (originally performed by Danzig), from the album American Recordings
I haven't heard either the original or Cash's version of this song, so after I listened the version by the man in black I had to take a listen of the original by the Morrison of metal. And I have to say that Cash nails this song just like he does with apparently all of his covers (my favourite being NIN song Hurt).

14.12. Hawk Nelson - 14, from the album Smile, It's The End Of The World
Neve heard of these guys before. But this song sounds nice. Pretty ballad, which gets a little repeatitive at the end.

15.12. Taylor Swift - Fifteen, from the album Fearless
Wow, is she really 20 years old? Such a great voice. The song is pretty decend, but I like her voice a lot. No matter what Kanye West says.

16.12. Iggy Pop - Sixteen, from the album Lust For Life
Ah, the legendary Iggy Pop. Nice tune, thou I like his later music more.

17.12. Sex Pistols - Seventeen, from the album Never Mind the Bollocks
Punk in general and specially Sex Pistols is something that I never really got into. I'm more into stuff like Misfits when it comes to that style. But Sex Pistols is still Sex Pistols and this was actually a pretty good song.

18.12. Dokken - Eighteen (originally performed by Alice Cooper, from the album For Those About To Röck
Pretty true to the original Cooper tune. Got to say that Cooper has more feeling in his vocals so I prefer the original one. Fine cover nevertheless.

19.12. Tegan and Sara - Nineteen, from the album The Con
Folk-rock duo, says Spotify's introduction. Sounds more like folk-punk to me. Reminds me of Melissa Auf Der Maur in a way. Not that bad, but not actually my "cup of tea".

20.12. Natalie Imbruglia - Twenty, from the album Come To Life
She does have a sweet voice, yes. And the song ain't that bad either. Background music.

1. Meat Loaf - Dead Ringer for Love
The ballad for seeing some across the table in a café/restaurant and thinking they're 'fit' but you don't know who they are. Man, how many times have I been in this scenario before? Great song though, it just makes you wanna rock out and have fun!

The song my friend Rug (Matt) had chosen at random for his music video project. He couldn't stand the song, which added hilarity to the scenario. In the end, he made a great masterpiece with the song and I think he's gonna get a good grade with it, congrats Rug!
