Scarlett Johansson, além de ter sido eleita a garota mais linda do mundo e atriz (destaque para Encontros e Desencontros), é cantora. Suas músicas são muitas vezes depressivas e com batidas alternativas como as que tocam no citado filme. No álbum Anywhere I Lay My Head, Scarlett faz dez versões novas para as músicas de Tom Waits.
A sua carreira como atriz foi lançada na produção teatral off-Broadway Sophistry, com Ethan Hawke. No cinema, Scarlett começou em 1994 com um pequeno papel no filme O Anjo da Guarda, de Rob Reiner. No ano seguinte, a atriz interpretou a filha de Sean Connery e Kate Capshaw em Justa Causa. De 1996 a 1999, ela emplacou apenas papéis de pouca potencialidade, seja na comédia romântica Lado a Lado com o Amor (1996) ou na aventura infantil Esqueceram de Mim 3 (1997), destacando-se, porém, sua dramática personagem em Meninas de Ninguém (1996), que lhe valeu uma indicação ao Independent Spirit Award 1997 como melhor atriz.
As coisas começaram a mudar quando Scarlett Johansson se envolveu com o projeto de vanguarda Ghost World (Mundo Cão no Brasil), de 2000, no qual contracena com Thora Birch, Steve Buscemi e Brad Renfro. A adaptação dos quadrinhos feita pelo diretor Terry Zwigoff conquistou uma indicação ao Oscar de melhor roteiro adaptado e, graças aos elogios da crítica especializada, abriu de vez as portas de Hollywood para a jovem atriz.

It's not entirely unenjoyable but as a Tom Waits - a huge, huge Tom Waits fan - this is all very bothersome to me. "Falling Down" is by far the most listenable thing here and "I Don't Wanna Grow Up" is by far the worst. Maybe once she records more original work besides "Song For Jo" I'll be able to listen subjectively but in the meantime it's impossible. Sorry.

The weird thing is that I actually don't have a problem with her vocal talent, just the vocal production on the record. It sounds over produced and over dubbed, which is really my only complaint about the record. I was hoping it would be a little jazzier, but the record has a very calming effect nonetheless. I enjoy it, sorry folks!

it's simple: if this album had come out under the name of a band, any name other than "Scarlett Johansson" these douchebags wouldn't be shitting on it one bit. They wouldn't have even heard of it. People who like dream/dronepop, shoegaze, early His Name Is Alive, and the general 4AD sound would be quietly enjoying it. BUT instead we get jerkoffs who think she's hot and listen to emo calling it crap. Oh well.
