Scanners é uma banda formada em Londres (Inglaterra) em 2004.
A banda foi formada inicialmente por Matthew Mole (vocais, guitarra e sintetizador) e Sarah Daly (vocais, violino e baixo) por volta de 2004, época que compuseram algumas músicas junto a uma bateria eletrônica.
Na formação da banda foi acrescida Amina Bates (guitarra, teclados e back vocals) e Tom Hutt (bateria) e a banda logo ganhou apoio para participar de turnês com The Wedding Present, The Fever, Electric Six e Juliette & The Licks. Eles estrearam com o álbum intitulado Violence Is Golden que foi lançado pela gravadora Dim Mak Records em 2006, no mesmo ano foram citados como um dos candidatos a melhor trabalho pela Aversion; ficando em excursão pelo Reino Unido, Europa e Estado Unidos (incluindo um show a parte no festival SXSW), em abril de 2007 apareceram em uma apresentação no Last Call with Carson Daly (talkshow da NBC, apresentado por Carson Daly) para mostrar o single
Lowlife. Na França abriram o Les 3 Elefants Festival para o Air. Em outubro de 2007 eles gravaram uma sessão ao vivo na XFM (rádio inglesa focada em bandas independentes) e outra em janeiro de 2008. Violence Is Golden foi lançado no Reino Unido em 22 de fevereiro de 2008 (Dim Mak/Influx). A Dim Mak também lançou um EP de remixes da música Bombs um trabalho junto com A-Trak, LA Riots, Uffie entre outros, isso em 22 de janeiro 2008.
Influências musicais
São vindas do post-punk e new wave, mas tem sido descrito como “uma concepção de pop obscuro com temas sinistros”. Eles têm sido comparados a bandas como Bloc Party, The Killers, Elástica, PJ Harvey, Garbage e The Cardigans.
