To słowo od lat budzi duże kontrowersje, dla "technomułów" to esencja progresji w muzyce a dokładnie w tzw; nowej muzyce. Z kolei dla laików i wszelkiej maści ignorantów to "umcy umcy" muzyka dla żelusiów i blachar z podmiejskich dyskotek. Aby zrozumieć fenomen tego gatunku współczesnej muzyki trzeba przenieść się do Detroit pod koniec lat 80 tych XX wieku. W owym czasie Derrick May, Juan Atkins i Kevin Saunderson zafascynowani elektronicznym brzmieniem grupy Kraftwerk zaczęli eksperymentować z "nowymi" dźwiękami. Tak powstało Detroit Techno główny kręgosłup nowego stylu muzycznego. Potem zaczęły powstawać jak grzyby po deszczu kolejne podgatunki : minimal, acid, deep, tribal itd. Nie długo do trójki "ojców techno" dołączył Jeff Mills najbardziej rozpoznawalna i kultowa postać sceny techno. Ze względu na siermiężność i konserwatyzm amerykańskiej sceny muzycznej, nasza czwórka postanowiła "uciec" za ocean i dołączyć do rodzącej się wtedy berlińskiej awangardy elektronicznej. Występy w klubie Tresor i wydawnictwa dla lebela Tresor Records ugruntowały pozycję "wielkiej czwórki" na europejskiej scenie techno. Pod koniec lat 90 tych ubiegłego wieku nastąpiło apogeum zainteresowania tym stylem muzycznym. Dziś techno to nadal muzyka undergroundowa choć już nie tak nowatorska i eksperymentalna jak kilkanaście lat temu. Na szczęście wciąż się rozwija.......To be continued .....

Sytuacja techno w Polsce

Już od początku lat 90 tych odbywały się w naszym kraju imprezy techniczne, choć najpierw był to typowy "misz masz" czyli totalne pomieszanie styli i gatunków. Niestety w Polsce na przestrzeni ostatnich kilkunastu lat mimo natłoku festiwali (Mayday, Soundtropolis czy Nature One - największe i najbardziej znane) muzyka ta nigdy nie trafiła do szerokiego odbiorcy, Spowodowane to było między innymi trudnością w odbiorze tej muzyki, ignorancją mediów czołobitnych wobec rockowych guru ale także słabą organizacją subkultury techno w Polsce. Pod koniec lat 90 tych zaczęła narastać niechęć do techno i totalna deprecjacja tego stylu. W naszym kraju w powszechnym mniemaniu za techno przyjmuje się ogół elektroniki z naciskiem na rozpowszechnione w stacjach radiowych, telewizjach muzycznych i dyskotekach style kompletnie nie mające z techno nic wspólnego. Wiele złego wyrządzili tej muzyce menadżerowie znanych wiksiarskich dyskotek ( Ekwador, Protektor, Energy 2000 itd), preparując w swoich tanzbudach tzw "sale techno" gdzie najczęściej naspidowane i zamroczone alkoholem nastolatki bansowały do znanych i "lubianych" hitów euro dance, stupid house, dancecore, hands up etc. Obecnie choć nasz kraj odwiedzają takie ikony techno jak np; Jeff Mills czy Chris Liebing muzyka ta została prawie całkowicie wyparta z klubów przez komercyjne odłamy house i trance.
