O SOULHEAD se estabeleceu como uma das mais importantes duplas de hip-hop do Japão desde sua estréia em 2002. Com músicas que abrangem uma variedade de gêneros como o soul, hip-hop, dance hall e funk, apenas para nomear alguns, as duas misturam sua música aparentemente produzida facilmente com letras em sua língua nativa e em inglês aprendido em suas experiências no exterior.

BIOGRAFIA:

YOSHIKA e TSUGUMI são duas irmãs de Hokkaido. Com apenas dois anos de diferença entre elas, as duas sempre tiveram um relacionamento próximo. Ambas cresceram com a música graças à influência de seus pais. Sua mãe gostava de música clássica, enquanto seu pai ouvia músicas tradicionais japonesas. YOSHIKA gostava particularmente da escolha de seu pai, com suas letras emotivas.

A primeira vez que as irmãs foram expostas ao hip-hop foi durante os tempos de escola. TSUGUMI, enquanto estava no Ensino Fundamental, ouviu músicas de Ice Cube e Snoop Dogg. Até hoje a dupla cita estes artistas como sua principal inspiração, juntamente com outros cantores famosos de hip-hop. Esta exposição ao hip-hop ocidental incentivou TSUGUMI a se tornar uma cantora, pois, naquele momento, ela odiava sua vida na escola.

Quando a dupla começou sua carreira musical em 2001, seu nome era BATTI BAAS e elas lançaram o disco de vinil Lovin’ You pela Handcuts Records. O single era um cover da música de Minnie Riperton, que foi um grande sucesso nos Estados Unidos em 1975.

    They announced a split a few weeks ago.     The prices are more or less a byproduct of Japan being quite an expensive country to live in; that said I echo your sentiments about digital music, -well I used to until Sugizo started putting out more stuff- It's just that in instances such as this one (where an album tanks quite badly) it seems to be a classic case of everybody waiting for a leak rather than perhaps doing the smarter thing (for those who want to listen to it) and setting up a joint fund or something else like that. Ah well, each to their own

    Japanese albums are by far the most expensive ones I've ever imported, and I've imported albums from all over the world. It's quite annoying, and I'm hesitant to spend so much money on something I'm not even sure I'll like. A personal preference: I feel that spending money on digital music is even less worth it. I could go into the reasons why, but I doubt it matters because it is personal preference. But I'd rather spend $50 to import a tangible album than buy it digitally. I'm perfectly fine with either waiting a long time for the album to pop up online or waiting a long time until I have enough spare money to get it myself. It's not like it's the end of the world if I can't hear someone's music RIGHT NOW, or even ever. I have plenty of other music out there to occupy my ears, legally even with my 500+ physical albums. Just thought I'd ask if anyone by any chance had the album already. *shrug*

    The price is more or less a standard for JP music, and to be frank I dont think that will go down (at least not in physical form)as CD sells are stalling and iTunes JP is finally taking off in terms of major sales figures. TBH; it's always been expensive to import unless the artist distributes via iTunes WW or of course they are on the indie circuit and considering on the internet everyone thinks the same, you might have to wait a long time for that unless you do the cheaper alt and just get a jp iTunes card.
