21,000th track - "
Every Breath You Take" by
The Police
I've loved this song since I was a lil' one and saw the video on MTV. The black and white imagery on the video was a perfect compliment to the rather creepy nature of the song. It always makes me laugh when I hear someone say, "Oh, that's our song!", or when I hear about it being used at a wedding or other romantic event - don't these people realize that it's about a stalker?? Funny stuff!

Pipes Honour" by
Nightmares on Wax
This song is just plain phat. Great beats and rhythms. Of course, I've enjoyed pretty much everything I've stumbled across by Nightmares, so I can't say this is unique in that way at all.
23,000th track - "
Golden Age" by
KT Tunstall
First time I heard this song, I loved it. But I knew I'd heard it before. I spent a couple of days thinking about it before giving up and hitting Google. And I discovered a big part of why I liked it - it's one of my favorite songs off of
Sea Change! I couldn't believe I didn't recognize it as being off that album, but shit happens. :)
24,000th track - "
Kissing" by
Bliss
Bliss is one of those bands I'm so happy I stumbled across. They're so dang mellow, but not in a way that puts me to sleep. It's just calming, soothing music, and "Kissing" is one of their best songs - to me, at least. It's very chill, but with that bit of sentimental romanticism running through it as well.

Home Life (Acoustic)" by
John Mayer
Just a great Johnnie song. It's one of those songs where you get a glimpse of the rock/pop star as just being a person. It's a perfect example of how he really opened up and dug deeper into who he was for the tracks on
Heavier Things. It's songs like this that make him feel like such an accessible artist, in the sense that just from listening to his music you kind of feel like you know the type of person they really are instead of just getting to know the projected persona they want you to know.

Let It Be" by
The Beatles
Simply excellent. What more can you say? Brilliant, brilliant song.
27,000th track - "
Indian Rope Trick" by
Flunk
Such a disparate bunch of sounds in this song, but they pull it off and make something excellent out of it all. It doesn't hurt that her voice is just so damn good that you'd have to work hard to make it sound bad!
28,000th track - "
Blind" by
Talking Heads
Such a funky song. For me, it really illustrates the diversity that TH displayed throughout their careers. I mean, one band did this song,
I Zimbra,
Psycho Killer and
Burning Down the House. It's all technically... what, rock? indie rock? post-modern punk? ... but still covers a vast spectrum of sound.
29,000th track - "
Jezebel" by
Iron & Wine
I love his voice on this song. He really just embraces the feeling of the song and lets it pour out as he sings. This is one of those tracks I could put on repeat for a bit and just enjoy.
30,000th track - "
Damascus" by
Conjure One
Great song by a band I'm still getting a feel for. There's a lot of great music there, but I sometimes find myself not really "feeling it". It seems like I definitely need to be in the right mood/frame of mind to get the most out of it, but it's still some good stuff.
31,000th track - "
Honey's In Love" by
Flunk
Excellent song by one of my favorite bands of late. There's such an ethereal feel to her voice on this one, like it's just kind of floating on top of the music, separate yet intricately interwoven with it.
32,000th track - "
Daughters" by
John Mayer Trio
I really hope he goes out in a trio again when I have a chance to catch it live. It's such a different sound than normal, though I thoroughly enjoy both styles. And this is a great version of this song live! Easily one of my favorite songs of his, it's taken on a bit more meaning since I've had my own daughters join me in life. There's some excellent words to live by here - the world would be a better place if more people listened!!
33,000th track - "
Hummingbird" by
John Mayer
This song is one that NEEDS to be on an album. This and
This Will All Make Perfect Sense Someday both need to be recorded and put out there. Musically great, lyrically superb, just all-around excellent!
34,000th track - "
The Way I Feel" by
Remy Shand
Who would have thought that a white boy could do such a good job of capturing the essence of '70s soul? Remy sure as heck did, though! I keep hoping that he someday comes back with a second album, but for now I make do with the soulful grooves of his only release.
35,000th track - "
Breathe Me" by
Sia
Beautiful song that can take your breath away. If I had taken to the time to listen and learn Sia's sound (not to mention the fact that she also sang with Zero 7 on some of my faves of theirs, too!), I wouldn't have waited so long to finally pick her up - but i'm glad I did! She sits completely naked and open on this song and the rest of the album, it's an amazing thing to hear.
36,000th track - "
spiri-chant" by
Ursula Rucker
If you like spoken word, this is one to check out. This track is a bit different than the rest of the album - kind of creepy, talking over a didgeridoo. Not bad, just different. Some very strong feminist leanings here, combined with a good chunk of anger. Not something I can listen to all the time, but still enjoyable.
37,000th track - "
Letter Read" by
Rachael Yamagata
this is the song that started it all with her for me. I got it off of iTunes as one of their free singles of the week back in the day, and I've loved her stuff ever since. It's a great song, though easily one of the more "radio-friendly" songs she has. Excellent lyrics, great music - go listen to her if you haven't heard or heard of her yet!!
38,000th track - "
Grand Canyon" by
Tracey Thorn
In case you couldn't tell by my other journal entry, I've been just a bit excited over her releasing a new album. This is easily one of my favorites from the album, and I think it's pretty cool that the line that gave the album its name is in here, too! Love the lyrics, love the music, love the song!
39,000th track - "
I've Given Enough" by
Blue Six
Another song by an artist I'm still getting familiar with. I found 'em on iTunes and thoroughly enjoyed the samples there, so I took the plunge. I haven't been disappointed - it's very much the type of chillout music I enjoy. I just need to listen a bit more to see if I consider them to be "good", "really good", "great" or what!
40,000th track - "
Lullaby of Clubland" by
Everything but the Girl
Great track from one of my absolute favorite artists. I can only hope that Tracey releasing a new album leads to her and Ben getting together in the studio again to bring out some more EBtG goodness!!
