Refused foi uma banda de hardcore/punk oriunda de Umeå, Suécia. A banda começou em Janeiro de 1992 com Dennis Lyxzén, David Sandström, Pär Hansson and Jonas Lidgren e lançou sua primeira demo, homônima, no mesmo ano. A banda lançou outra demo, cinco EPs e 3 discos (não incluindo a compilação de Demos e a compilação de EPs), antes de terminarem em 1998. A última formação do Refused consistia em:Dennis Lyxzén, David Sandström, Kristofer Steen and Jon Brännström, os quais lançaram tudo desde “Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent (1996), até “The shape of punk to come”. Nesse album a banda começa a flertar com elementos da música eletrônica, mostrando realmente a cara do punk que estava por vir. Uma característica principal da banda são as letras totalmente políticas, influenciadas por Karl Marx, Errico Malatesta, etc. O vocalista principal hoje tem uma banda chamada The (International) Noise Conspiracy.
