  • Seen Live

    Dez 4 2009, 16h20 por shawny

The first three are mildly embarrassing, but when you're twelve and living in the woods of Bumfuck, Wisconsin, you take what you can get. These are in approximate chronological order:

    Goo Goo Dolls - meh - 97?
    Counting Crows - meh - 99?
    Blue Merle - 99
    Foo Fighters - 00, 2x
Muse - 00, met Matt Bellamy!
Red Hot Chili Peppers - 00
    Bad Religion - 04/05
The Vandals - 04, at Warped Tour
    Pennywise - 05
Queens of the Stone Age - 06, in a casino, of all places. Fantastic show.
    Social Distortion - 07, meh
People in Planes - 08, lovely, though I was one of maybe 6 people there
    Bouncing Souls - 08, meh
Travis - 09, met Fran Healy and Andy Dunlop!

    Dying to see someday:
    Ash
    Supergrass
    Kaiser Chiefs
Muse - again, now that they're all theatrical
Travis - would like to see a full electric show!

Argh. I should really move to a city.

  • How Varied Is My Music Taste 2009

    Dez 3 2009, 20h39 por kellie237

First, make a list of your top-20 artists overall. Then, for each of these artists, add the 8 most similar artists to your list. Delete any duplicates, count up the number of entries on your list and this will give you some idea of how eclectic your listening habits are. A score of 9 represents an extremely unvaried musical taste while a 160 represents an extremely varied one.

  • Top 50 Questions (12/1/09)

    Dez 1 2009, 23h56 por wilsondan6789

    1. What's your favorite song by 15?
    Jane's Addiction - Ocean Size

    2. How did you get into 20?
At the Gates - Heard blinded by fear when it was announced for Rock band and thought what a terrible band. Somehow got into one of my playlists and wound up liking it : /

    3. Who is your favorite member in 1?
Marilyn Manson - Twiggy Ramirez, hmmm

    4. What’s your favorite lyric bit by 29?
Iced Earth - "Red Barrrrooooonnnnn... BLUE MAX!" I guess I don't really listen to them for lyrics....

    5. Have you ever seen 23 live?
Motley Crue - No, but I was supposed too : (

    6. What's your favorite album from 10?
Gaslight Anthem - My only album by them, and most listened to album at one point: The '59 Sound.

    7. Do you own any merchandise from 2?
Blind Guardian - Shirt from a concert and a beanie.

    8. What is a good memory you have of 7?
Elvenking - Every time I introduce them and see the wince on the face of whoever asked who they were. Classic terrible name.

    Blind Guardian - .... No.

    10. When did you first get into 8?
Cat Stevens - Don't remember what age I was, but it was the same time Harvest Moon for the GC came out. I would play that game with this in the background it was the bomb.

    Lacuna Coil - Heaven's a Lie.

Beastie Boys - For the most part.... the lyrics are so bad they are good, and the beats are usually cool.

Rage Against the Machine - Hatin' on the government like all of their songs.

  • For the record...

Imagine smooth, subtle, seamless transitions from jazz influenced chord structures to riff rock set to a familiar contemporary rock feel with catchy sing song, powerpop, vocal hooks and melodies. Guitar: this is heavily Jazz influenced, with melodic and shred metal tidbits here and there when called for. To get me out of Jazz mode I have to use alternate tunings. "CrowfeatheR" on the guitar is a nuclear-jazz guitarist with a sonic chameleon and multiple personality disorder complex. Every section of every song must have its own sonic principal and style that suits the feel of the music. My favorite guitar sound is from a HALO guitar and an EMG pickup. My primary instrument in the past has been the electric Bass. My greatest influences growing up were John Taylor (Duran Duran), James Jamerson, Bootzilla (that's Bootsy Collins to you), Muzz Skillins (living Color), Doug Pinnick (Kings-X, Pound hound), Chris Squire (YES) and of course Geddy Lee (Rush). Although I have the technical ability for endless masturbatory riffing and blazing runs faster than any guitar player could ever do using a pick, using my "cross finger picking" technique, I chose not to include too much of that in my popular music. I have put most of that behind me and I am trying to loose my musical ego. I am more worried about how things sound other than playing stuff no one else can. My favorite Bass tone is my custom made Bass through a bright, tube preamp with new sparkling Curt Mangan light stainless strings, mmmm, warm, punchy and crunchy. My percussion tracks are a Combination of live drums and percussion and digitally sampled or electronic, drum programming. My favorite drummers are too many to list , but include Morgan Rose (Seven Dust), Danny Carey (TOOL), Sam Mcandless (COLD), Jerry Gaskill (Kings-X) and the creator of the modern drumming style, Neil Peart (Rush). I prefer the sound of Mahogany drum shells, ported bass drum heads, a hard beater and a beater patch.

  • How varied is your music taste?

    Nov 30 2009, 13h51 por lovejohnnydepp

First, make a list of your top-20 artists overall. Then, for each of these artists, add the 8 most similar artists to your list. Delete any duplicates, count up the number of entries on your list and this will give you some idea of how eclectic your listening habits are. A score of 9 represents an extremely unvaried musical taste while a 160 represents an extremely varied one.
