Hay veces en que llega la noche y me siento más solo que de costumbre. La vorágine del día se calma, los sonidos se atenúan, pero me viene una sensación de vacío. Son esos momentos en los que dudo en si hice bien en adornar las paredes de mi living con un cuadro de Joey Ramone con la frase "Life's a gas, so don't be sad cause I'll be there" y 2 cuadros con tapas de vinilos de los Ramones que conseguí en el barrio Camden Town de Londres cuando fui a visitar a mi hermano. Porque gracias a eso me doy cuenta de que son ellos los que me están faltando. Porque a pesar de que pasaron 13 años desde su último concierto en Los Angeles, todavía me causa desazón saber que no los voy a ver nunca más sobre un escenario.

En el año 1992 me compré el disco Mondo Bizarro. Tenía entre 12 y 13 años y fue uno de mis primeros CDs. Aún hoy lo conservo y es una de mis piezas más escuchadas. Había algo diferente en esa música que llegaba a mis oídos adolescentes a través de mi disc-man. Sí, definitivamente me golpeaba de una manera especial. En ese momento no lo sabía, pero ese disco fue la puerta a 17 años ininterrumpidos de una relación inquebrantable con esta música que amo: el Punk Rock.

3 veces vi a Ramones en vivo. 2 veces en Obras y la despedida final en River. Después vería a Dee Dee, C Jay, y 2 veces a Marky, pero es todo parte de otras historias. Ver a los 4 integrantes de Ramones sobre un escenario es impactante. ¿Cómo explicarlo? Es decir, como explicar que 4 tipos que se quedan parados sin moverse durante poco más de una hora de show irradian una energía incalculable. Haga frío, haga calor, ellos siempre salían a escena con sus camperas de cuero y sus jeans achupinados. Me acuerdo ahora de una entrevista a James Iha de Smashing Pumpkins donde cuenta que en un festival en Australia, con 35 grados de temperatura, los músicos de todas las bandas andaban de pantalones cortos y remeras, pero los Ramones se paseaban con su atuendo típico a base de camperas de cuero y pantalones de jeans. ¿No es genial? 35 canciones en 70 minutos. Eso si que es un record. Y todos los recitales de Ramones duraban lo mismo. Anda dando vueltas una anécdota de que Johnny cronometraba los ensayos para que todo dure el tiempo exacto, ni un minuto más ni un minuto menos. Era impresionante. El público no tenía respiro. Era un tema atrás de otro separados por el ya famoso "one-two-three-four" del bajista de turno. Siempre me pregunté si alguna vez alguno se había equivocado y empezado el tema incorrecto después de la marcada. ¿Alguno sabe si ocurrió?

En mis primeros años de escuela secundaria, los Ramones eran furor acá en Argentina. Me acuerdo que en una semana llenaron algo así como 6 estadios Obras (5000 personas aproximadamente cada uno) y ocupaban las primeras planas de todos los medios. Me acuerdo de un profesor de historia que decía (y no era el único): "esos Ramones vienen a robar acá porque en su país nadie les da bola". Y yo le decía: "si eso es robar ojalá que me sigan robando toda la vida. Ojalá todos los chorros fueran así". Hace un tiempo me enteré que ese profesor había muerto.

Los Ramones anunciaron su retiro en 1996. Sin embargo, no fue hasta que murió Joey en 2001 que me cayó la ficha de que nunca más iba a volver a ser testigo de tanta emanación energética. Hasta ese entonces, con todos los integrantes vivos, uno siempre mantiene la esperanza del reencuentro. Igualmente, hasta que no murió Johnny en 2004, recuerdo fantasear con un amigo con un recital de Ramones sin cantante. Con Johnny, Marky y C. Jay tocando sus instrumentos y el público cantando desaforadamente todas las canciones. Nos imaginábamos un micrófono en el medio del escenario con una campera de cuero. Nos gustaba mucho esa quimera.

La canción de hoy es de aquellas no tan conocidas brillantes canciones de Ramones. Subterranean Jungle es un disco plagados de este tipo de canciones. Esa guitarra, esa velocidad, ese ritmo de batería y esa dulzura que exhalan las cuerdas vocales de Joey hacen de In the Parkuna canción exquisita que me hizo dar ganas de escribir lo que escribí en los párrafos anteriores. Ojalá que la disfruten tanto como yo.
