well, due a lot of crappy laziness and mental fatigue this journal delayed 3 months, but thanx to this i've listened to some great albums released last year that i simply didn't notice ... meanwhile i kept my ears inclined away from a lot of good albums ( as i've read or heard from some ) cuz simply i was into something else or different mood, so again this list is not my final judgment of 2008 eventhough i'm not sure that the first 4 places of each category would change .. but who knows!

It's been a while but i'm back with another one for your aurual pleasure. There's a fair few vocal tracks, a helping of scratching and quite a mix of liquid with dark tunage to keep it all moving along nicely.

Sun 27 May – Dot To Dot Festival
The day started off badly, pouring rain coupled with the insane descision to walk into town lead to us arriving late at Rock City to discover an enormous queue to get wristbands for the day. Never mind, the benefit of having loads of venues is that they are all giving out wristbands, so we trooped off to Trent University instead, bypassing Rescue Rooms as the queue there was almost as big as that at Rock City anyway. Thankfully Trent had no queue whatsoever, so we piled in and got a hot cup of tea. We rocked.

By the end of the tea and somewhere down pint number one Love Ends Disaster started upstairs, who I mostly tried to avoid since they sounded awful.

Next up were Radar, also upstairs, who were trying desperately to be Madness but failing miserably, and just annoyed me, so I pottered on downstairs to watch Fanfarlo, a fairly mellow indie group who used more instruments than they had people, and whose wandering bassist put several people's heads at risk - including the lead singer who he almos belted round the head with his bass in an act of not paying attention to what was going on around him!

Maps followed, who played an interesting set of electronica which suited the mood brilliantly, great stuff but possibly only in relatively small doses.

Next we trooped over to Rock City, where we eventually got past the bouncers who were failing miserably to perform any type of effective crowd control whatsoever, to see Kate Nash, who was pretty uninspiring to be honest, so I bailed down to the Basement to catch the end of The Scare who sounded pretty good from the little I heard. I also caught the beggining of Drive By Argument who sounded promissing, but sadly food was required by this point so we trooped off to the pub:-)

Re-nourished and warm again we braved the weather to head back to Trent for Broken Family Band, having bailed on seeing Dykeenies due to the huge queue. They were pretty adept at what they did, which was unassuming sing-along rock, but their stage presence was terrible, not a thrill to watch.

They were followed by the Trent headliners Blonde Readhead, who were excellent as ever, marred somewhat by the sound, which managed to drown out the vocals entirely:-( So a couple of songs in I bailed upstairs to go and see The Thermals, who were full of energy and generally a fairly good Punk band.

I finished off the night with the random craziness that is Bearsuit, complete with air-hostess uniforms and wailing vocals, very odd and not really that great to be honest.

Overall a great event, can't wait for next year. A couple of photos are here.
