I got to see this concert of Pink yesterday (or her correct artist name is P!nk) by pure coincidence, as I work at the concert area. Not being a concert I would even consider to go to (even less pay for), this ought to be interesting..
My predictions were partly correct, the audience was filled with thousands of danish women.. Of practically all ages, and not just the youngest teenagers as I presumed. Even some guys out there, though I suspected they might have been dragged there by there girlfriends..
Warmup: Evermore - an alternative-pop band with some piano-driven sounds, similar to The Fray and The Script. They have a free download on their homepage, check it out (http://www.evermoreband.com/). As I haven't heard about them before, it mostly sounded like generic rock to me, but they did a decent job. Don't think the genre fitted well to the occasion though - the crowd was coming for Pink's pop sounds..
About Pink's performance:
Music:
I actually first heard Pink all the way back in 2000, when the singles from her first album hit MTV, the R&B/pop inspired tracks. But Pink has evolved far beyond that stage, so I was kinda disappointed that none of these song were performed.
But the setlist consisted of decent pop music, she played most of her famous hits + songs from her new album, and I guess her sing-along fans loved her for that.
Also interesting was the acoustic tracks performed in the middle of the concert.. Sitting in the middle of the stage with her musicians on barstools, the crowd got a real intimate touch of the "adult" and serious Pink. I enjoyed hearing
What I enjoyed less was all the cover songs she performed. Among these were Highway to Hell (AC/DC),
In total, Pink did almost 20 songs a reckon, which is really impressive, and she managed to keep everybody excited because of...
Performance:
Now that was something special! Pink's Funhouse was decorated as a circus, clearly inspired from Britney Spears - The Circus (?!) - The difference is: Pink is not doing playback..
Pink's crew impressed me with all their acrobatics, a great performance that really impressed the crowd. Even better, Pink performed a couple of stunts herself, showing everybody she is not only a musician, but is also a complete entertainer! Especially the last part of the concert where where was raised up in the air, hanging from up-down with her legs on a bar and singing - before spinning furiously around.. Amazing!
Also, Pink managed to introduce her whole crew - something you would only see on a theater stage, showing people this truly was a show and not just a plain concert performance, a nice touch!
Overall:
Although her music hits just above average to me, the stage performance and the entertainment was so overwhelming that the whole show was quite worth the time and money - easily top notch material! I would gladly recommend anyone to see her Funtour if they possibly can, a great night of entertainment =)
