Nascidos das cinzas da antiga banda Anatomy of a Ghost, John Gourley (na voz) e Zach Carothers (na guitarra), de Wasilla Arkansas, E.U.A., decidem continuar o trabalho em conjunto e criam um novo projecto, agora com o polémico nome Portugal. The Man.
Têm as suas raízes no rock, com elementos folk, soul e até mesmo blues. Já contam com quatro álbuns na sua discografia: “Waiter: You Vultures!”, seguido de “Church Mouth”, um album detentor de maior “agressividade”. “Censored Colors” foi lançado após uma série de concertos e a serenidade da musicalidade desta banda retorna em grande: contratam violinistas, trombonistas para a gravação deste novo trabalho. O último álbum, The Satanic Satanist foi lançado em 2009.

Uh, if you want me to be honest, I love both MGMT and PTM and I've personally listened to every single one of PTM's albums.. They only really sound like MGMT in "In the Mountain, In the Cloud" and slightly in "American Ghetto." I don't see why there's a big argument over this, though. Shut up and enjoy their awesome music guys >:I
