Alright, as we near the end of this first Y2K decade, it's time to take a look back at all the incredible Albums that have been released up to now.

I'll start off this extensive research with 2000, up until 2009. I'll then go back to 1980, all the way up to 1999, to then wrap things up with the 70s and before.

Seeing the amount of albums I listen(ed) to, I'll be choosing my Top 25 Albums for each year. An ordered Top 10, and ~15 others worth mentioning. I'm also considering the live albums and EPs (~5), but they have their own section since songs on these have usually already been released before.

These are general rankings of how I see them today, and based on my Last.FM songs playcounts (2005-now) put through the formula:

Sábado 21 Nov – Porcupine Tree, Stick Men



Cerca de um ano após se terem estreado na cidade do Porto, os britânicos Porcupine Tree voltaram ao Teatro Sá da Bandeira para mais uma noite memorável. "The Incident" vinha na bagagem e os norte-americanos Stick Men assumiram a primeira parte do espectáculo.

Sem grandes atrasos os nova-iorquinos Stick Men subiram ao palco do Teatro Sá da Bandeira á hora prevista. Apesar de não ser a primeira vez destes americanos por terras lusas eram desconhecidos para a maioria da plateia que se ia aglomerando em frente ao palco. Durante cerca de 40 minutos, Tony Levin (baixista dos King Crimson), Pat Mastelotto e Michael Bernier souberam como entreter o público até ao grande momento da noite pelo qual se aguardava. Tony Levin explicou que se chamavam Stick Men devido aos instrumentos usados, os Champmam Sticks, e por entre virtuosismos e pormenores técnicos a banda americana foi arrancando cada vez mais aplausos do público. Merecidamente aplaudidos, conquistaram certamente novos fãs.

Por volta das 22:15 e perante uma sala muito perto da sua lotação máxima (não sei se esgotou, mas se não esteve muito perto disso) os londrinos Porcupine Tree entravam em palco. O êxtase e a expectativa pairavam no ar e uma vez mais o mítico teatro portuense criava um ambiente único. "I - Occam's Razor", faixa introdutória do último registo, deu ínicio ao concerto imediantamente seguido de "II - The Blind House". Steven Wilson agradeceu os fortes aplausos e explicou que o concerto seria dividido em duas partes, como a maioria da plateia já devia de saber. A primeira parte seria composta pelo primeiro cd do último albúm e a segunda por temas de registos anteriores. "The Incident" foi muito bem aceite pela plateia e o sr. Steven Wilson e companhia conseguiram provar como uma faixa de 55 minutos, embora divida em partes, consegue ser tocada ao vivo sem grandes paragens e sem se tornar aborrecida. O novo registo têm a capacidade de se tornar bastante intimista ao vivo levando várias vezes o mentor do projecto a sentar-se ao piano ou em frente ao microfone, munido da sua guitarra acústica, em momentos de pura comtemplação artística, sendo os videos bem trabalhados e sincronizados a paisagem perfeita. "II The Blind House", "III - Great Expectations", "V - Drawing The Line", "VI - The Incident", "IX - Time Flies" e "XIV - I Drive the Hearse" destacaram-se como os melhores temas ao vivo do novo registo. Tal como era de esperar e tratando-se de uma tour de apresentação do novo registo, que completou nessa noite 2 meses após ter sido lançado, os Porcupine Tree não tocaram apenas 3 temas desse álbum.

Mais uma vez a banda agradeceu e saiu de palco para um intervalo de 10 minutos que chegou a ter contagem decrescente no ecrã gigante. Durante este intervalo o êxtase e a expectativa voltaram a aumentar, algo que se destacou ainda mais pela contagem por parte da plateia dos 10 segundos finais, como se de uma passagem de ano se tratasse.

Os londrinos voltam a entrar em palco sob uma forte tempestade de aplausos e agora a intimidade e empatia que já se tinha notado ia ser levada ao extremo. Isto devido aos temas de registos mais antigos que iriam tocar e com os quais os presentes estavam mais familiarizados. Abordando o álbum "Deadwing", retomaram o concerto com "The Start of Something Beautiful", excelente faixa com uma produção de video ao seu nível, naquele que foi outro grande momento da noite. "Russia on Ice" foi o tema que se seguiu antes de parte do tema "Anesthetize" fazer as delícias de um público fantástico. "Lazarus", outro grande momento da noite, pôde ser ouvida pela primeira vez na cidade do Porto e "Bonnie The Cat" a faixa escolhida do último registo a figurar neste concerto. "The Mother and Child Divided" e "Normal" encerraram a segunda parte do concerto. A banda despediu-se mais uma vez de palco sob fortes aplausos.

As luzes permancem apagadas sinal de que mais ainda esta por vir e as palavras "we want more" foram acompanhadas do"pum-pum-pum" feito com os pés no soalho do velhinho teatro portuense, algo que também já vem sendo habitual em concertos neste local.

Os Porcupine Tree regressavam a palco para o encore e num regresso ao álbum "In Absentia" trouxeram "The Sound of Muzak" e "Trains", em versão prolongada (com apresentação dos músicos pelo meio e Colin Edwin e John Wesley atirarem o "frango" de borracha do Steve um ao outro, proporcionando momentos hilariantes) para encerrar uma grande noite em beleza. No final houve ainda um truque de magia do grande baterista Gavin Harrison que fez desaparecer as suas baquetas, tempestade de aplausos, agradecimentos por parte do público e dos músicos e as palavras que se esperavam vindas do Steven Wilson: "Thank you very much Porto. We´ll be back really, really soon, Thank you so much"

Os Porcupine Tree são sem dúvida os novos Pink Floyd, mas com seu toque característico e criatividade reconhecidos. Os concertos acarretam grandes produções vizuais proporcionando sempre grandes momentos á plateia. Steven Wilson, Gavin Harrison, Colin Edwin, Richard Barbieri são todos excelentes músicos sem exagerarem nas doses de virtuosísmo. Sem esquecer John Wesley que acompanha este quarteto fantástico ao vivo e que trás o seu toque pessoal à banda. Sem ele os Porcupine Tree ao vivo não seriam a mesma coisa.

Serão os Porcupine Tree capazes de dar maus concertos?

Grande noite, grande concerto, grande ambiente, grande plateia...
