An Sealgaire, the new mini-album from Beithíoch, is available now as a free Creative Commons licensed download.
Hi.Arc.Tow presents the debut album of industrial techno project Mushin as a free Creative Commons download. Síol Na Gréine - new album "Nihil" available as free download
Jul 3 2009, 0h29 por radio_nihil

Nihil, the newest work from Síol Na Gréine, is available now as a free Creative Commons licensed download.
Nihil is a three movement pseudo-symphony transcending the boundaries imposed between the more artistically aware forms of popular music (ambient and underground metal) and the world of classical music. Filtering its motivic metamorphoses through the aesthetics of overdriven guitar and delay/effects, Nihil meanders organically through waves of noise and atonality towards a tonal, pictorial narrative of the cyclicality of decay, destruction and rebirth.

Cryosyncopy releases new album Cosmic Vicissitude as free download

The new, and likely final, album from Cryosyncopy is available now from HI.ARC.TOW as a free Creative-Commons licensed download. The album forgoes the several-track format of preceding albums for two longer, more meditative pieces that together form a more obvious whole. As on previous album Black Sea visual artwork has been skillfully provided by Apostol. The album is available in both MP3 and lossless FLAC format.

About Cryosyncopy
Cryosyncopy paints pictures with sound, in ways that are sometimes more cinematic than traditionally musical in how they use texture, tonality and space. But to over analyze is to miss the point, and to fail to see this music as it is - sonic environments to traverse and immerse in. Instead it asks the listener to explore for themselves and allow the art to represent itself through the ideas it already has embedded within its design.

V/A - Warp Routine
Jan 5 2009, 12h00 por jheisel
Another day, another compilation (that time of year, I suppose). Today it's an album that, from what I recall, was set to celebrate Warp Records tenth anniversary: Warp Routine. Again, I am sure I acquired this for free back in my music director stage of life, a time when I wasn't picky about my acquisitions, as I wasn't paying for them, and the key reason to keep a CD in many cases was whether it may have resale vaue down the road (eBay, hello?). In any case, that explains why I ended up with this CD of electronic music, IDM or what have you. Although this is probably among the tops of the genre, I can't say that most of it stands out beyond being background music. I did dig tracks by Mira Calix and Autechre, and the Jamie Lidell song made me wonder if he was really singing about fucking someone in the back of his daddy's car. Oh, and the droney nature of the Untitled Polygon Window song was alright, too. But ultimately, this is nothing I am going to find myself going back to. However, given that I now essentially only listen to music on shuffle (10,931 songs and going strong!), I certainly won't complain when this stuff pops up.
As always, if you decide to download the record, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. -

Tagging artists with their own name.
Jul 14 2008, 13h48 por apex
Why? Why do people insist on tagging artists with the artists name, or other artists name?
For example, Nine Inch Nails, is tagged as Nine Inch Nails. No, really? Are we sure this is NIN? Might we forget that Nine Inch Nails is in fact, Nine Inch Nails, if we don't tag it as such?
Heres an example of tagging artists with other artists names. Boards of Canada, Error Unknown, and Thalassa are all tagged Aphex Twin. Guess what. None of those artists are Aphex Twin.
Can we at least all make the extra effort to put "music like" in front of the artist your comparing it too? For example, Squarepusher could be tagged "music like aphex twin". Its literally only 10 extra characters. It seems like a small price to pay to not look like a retarded bastard who's cluttering Last.fm with stupid tags.
Arguably, there are some cases where it may have a point. In the instance of artists like Aphex Twin and Syndrone who have recorded under multiple names. But for the sake of organization and cleanliness, can we just not? You know that Polygon Window is Richard D. James, so is it really necessary to tag it as Aphex Twin?
That is all. -
