JNN050 - no-R-mal
20 Ago 2009 | de phillipwilkerson.blogspot.com/
To celebrate the 50th release on his Just Not Normal netlabel, Mark Stolk invited some of the best (netlabel)artists from around the globe to join in the creation of a massive compilationalbum.
In total 52 artists joined to create the finest in what is available in experimental music these days. Much of what you hear is unreleased work with the exception of a handful. These tracks have been carefully mastered and put together to present to you a 4 CD epic journey into sound. Together with the artwork the puzzle lies ahead to find out what exactly is 'normal'.
A tip of the veil; ... there is no one answer. What one considers normal another may disagree on with totally different standards.
Or in short; we are all just not normal and we all are!
no R mal!

Review: Ege Denizi
25 Jun 2009 | de phillipwilkerson.blogspot.com/
Travis Nobles of the Hiddenplace Music blog offers up a nice review of Ege Denizi. Many thanks, Travis!
http://hiddenplacemusic.blogspot.com/2009/06/phillip-wilkerson-and-tange-ege-denizi.html
"i have to admit, the pedal steel guitar is not one of my favorite instruments- the twangy sound often used in country music can really grate on my nerves. but the instrument can also be very effectively used in ambient and atmospheric music, providing subtle textures or smooth and ghostly leads. Gordon Macmillian's contributions to Ege Denizi are a wonderful example of the masterfully subtle use of steel guitar-- the gliding amorphous melodies and swelling textures are couched in Phillip Wilkerson's luminous pads, soothing atmospherics and occasional rhythmic elements. as noted by the earth mantra staff, an immensely beautiful, delicate and transcendent release."

Review: Ege Denizi
9 Jun 2009 | de phillipwilkerson.blogspot.com/
Søren Hybel of Luftrum offers this review of the Phillip Wilkerson & Tange collaboration, Ege Denizi (earman080):
REVIEW - - - -
Sublime collaboration!
It’s the fourth time I indulge myself in this atmospheric soundworld of Ege Denizi. Four parts and 55 minutes of rich and evolving ambient that never strays away from the listener. More things are happening here, as the album slowly evolves from shifting drones layered with subtle guitar to mellow arpeggiated tunes - it even features gently percussion work as heard on part 3. Overall, it oozes of perfection and there’s a great attention to detail in each of the four parts.
Ege Denizi is a transcendental and light-hearted experience, There are no darkness or cloudy tunnels surrounding the composition. Instead, it reaches into an uplifting realm of lightness with a soothing grip.
Brilliant collaboration. Kudos to you both.
