Is the world in need of any more Norwegian cosmic disco, with its defining Spanish guitars, arpeggios and lush electronics? In my opinion, despite an army of people jumping on the bandwagon, the cosmic and Balearic bubbles burst over the summer, after Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas' rather underwhelming second album. In real terms, Balearic seems to be an excuse to play any old stuff – Phil Collins included -- and cosmic allows DJs to play those spacey records no one ever dances to. The movement is a manifestation of record collecting geeks taking over and dominating the party.
Coincidentally, the self-titled debut album of Ytre Rymden Dansskola is the second album to be released via Prins Thomas’ Full Pupp label; this year also bought Blackbelt Andersen's debut, which came from the same cosmic plane, but arrived after being filtered through a techno force field. I really want to like this album -- it's extremely well produced and has a nice ethereal vibe - I even found myself nodding my head at one point. “Boogie Bus” was my favourite, a moody shuffling track that breaks out now and again with a siren’s wail that makes you feel as if you are on life threatening voyage past Sirenum Scopu. But as you can probably tell from my Balearic rant, I am left feeling underwhelmed: all the components are there, they just aren't delivered in an engaging way.
However, if you thought that Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas II was great, or even just pretty good, then track down Ytre Rymden Dansskola. It's more interesting, and less noodly than the label bosses’ effort, and while it doesn't push any boundaries, it does what it does with aplomb.

Don't worry, these guys already know they suck. And we're all aware of their obvious gimmick, but these guys give me worst headaches than any Merzbow album ever could.
The Resistance by Muse
Really, these guys have lost the little artistic merit they had with this whiny little wankfest. They're pitted against Dream Theater in an effort to completely bury progressive rock in the ground, except WAIT. THEY AREN'T PROGRESSIVE ROCK. God forbid this band writes pop songs longer than 4 minutes. And they've become 100% dependent on Matt Bellamy's constant strained yodeling, but everyone just calls it an "opera-influence." Give me a fucking break.
Abstract Expression by Dominique Leone
I didn't list these albums in order of least to most hated, but this is slated in 2nd place VERY close to Brokencyde. To think this sack of shit excuse for a man pitchforked Boredoms and gave that website the very small credibility they have. This isn't any deeper than your average "indie pop" with really awful beats, but it feels as though he wants to harmonize every fucking song the wrong way to make it sound like a true "hipster" album. Well, sorry bud, even your own colleagues don't like it. A 6.7 is pretty fucking generous.

Not only does Frusciante now completely sound like Phil Collins with 80s production values, he butchered one of my favorite songs.

We all know really shitty production in the end doesn't hamper good songwriting. But there is no good songwriting here, at all. Plus, he acts like a two year old in front of a paying audience. Double whammy for this fucker.
