Sat 5 Nov – Frampton Comes Alive 35 Years Tour - An Evening with Peter

I'd really been looking forward to this gig as I've grown up with the Comes Alive album (I was 16 when it came out) and I have to say it was great to hear the music live.

The band are OK... keyboard player Rob Arthur is no Bob Mayo, not reproducing some of the more dextrous work on the original album, but still providing some good stuff. Guitarist Adam Lester provided a perfectly adequate rythm to Frampton's lead, and the bass and drums were solid.

The first half of the show (nearly two hours) saw the whole Comes Alive album played in its entirety, the only difference being 'Lines on My Face' featuring as the third song rather than the second to last.

Highlights for me were the aforementioned song, Shine On (some mad guitar from both players), All I Want To Be (ably helped by the enthusiastic audience), the acoustic Penny for Your Thoughts and, of course, Do You Feel Like We Do (one of rock's legendary songs.)

Sun 17 Jul – Peter Frampton Comes Alive! Tour
Peter Frampton came alive last night, and played his famous Frampton Comes Alive! album, not necessarily in the same order, but did start with Something's Happening. Lines On My Face came earlier in the evening, and the first part of the concert ended with Do We Feel Like We Do. Then, Peter announced a 20-minute break.

If you are only into Peter Frampton for the hit songs, the show is now over for you. You may go home. For the true fans, the second half was a great blend of instrumental and acoustical songs. And, by the way, this was one of the best-sounding bands I've heard at this venue. Sometimes the sound can be a little muddy, but not in this case. The sound was perfect and you could hear Peter's adept guitar-pickin' from the lawn seats, I'm sure.

The show started at 7:00 p.m. and ended sometime around 10:30 p.m. You definitely get your money's worth!

It isn't too difficult to understand why MFSL considered this album to be a worthy candidate for an Ultradisc reissue—aside from Cannonball Adderley, you have a lineup that includes Miles Davis, Hank Jones, Sam Jones, and Art Blakey. This is a group that could take on a Barry Manilow number and turn it into a jazz masterpiece. MFSL have done the purchaser a favor, too, by including an additional track that was left off the original album. This sixth track, “Alison's Uncle”, closes out Somethin' Else on a high note, changing the flow of energy in an interesting way (purists can still finish up on a quieter note, as with the original, by programming "Dancing in the Dark" as the final track). In many ways it's a surprise that this track was left off originally—it's an excellent piece, with Adderley and Davis trading licks and solos while Jones and Blakey keep pace. Blakey also takes some terrific solos. …
