ontem à noiteMy favourite band. Stephen Malkmus is such a talented guy, he's a genius! For newcomers: - Slanted and Enchanted -> Most acclaimed (their musical climax) - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain -> Most casual (a good entry point) - Wowee, Zoowee -> Most hardcore (for diehard fans) - Brighten the Corners -> Most beautiful (contains their greatest song, "Fin") - Terror Twilight -> Most Stephen Malkmus The latter is a more diverse album, but all are brilliant in their own way. As far as I'm concerned, there's not a single "filler" album among their discography. My personal favourites are the first-fourth ones, I just can't pick one alone.

Semana passadaThe best Pavement album money can buy is actually The Slanted & Enchanted : Luxe Redux reissue, it has the best b-sides you'll find on any of the reissues (Brightens the Corners reissue b-sides are a close 2nd though!). The best Pavement album in my opinion however is Wowee Zowee. Lastly, the CR CR reissue has by far the worst b-side CD out of all the reissues.

Mês passadoI started in high school when an english teacher I had been discussing music with let me borrow his copy of S & E... it took me a couple of years to really 'get' Pavement, but once I did I was so thankful for that.

Mês passadoSo I'd caught the end of Summer Babe being played on the radio, maybe the last 30 seconds back in 1991 or 1992 and heard the name Pavement.. It had pricked my interest. A few weeks later I was hanging out with this hippy girl, we stayed up all night, took acid and walked around some lakes looking at bats. It was a hot hot night. I remember that. In the morning fighting backache, knowing we would not sleep - we walked into town, about 30 minutes walk. After forcing food inside I went into the record shop. Saw S & E on vinyl and immediately bought it... Later that day I got home. My family were in the garden enjoying a sunny Sunday, I went to my room opened the window and drew the curtains. I can almost hear the initial needle bumps and then those opening guitars... I often wonder what shes doing now...

Mês passadoI actually HATED this band for the longest time... but since they influenced so many of my favorite bands, I kept listening to them every once in a while out of some weird obligation or something. I'm glad I did, because I finally like them now and see why they're so respected. I've only heard CRCR and S&E, but S&E is probably my favorite of the two and I can see it growing on me more.

Mês passado@Boshwadam Ya, perhaps I don't recognize the finer details of the album, but just in terms of overall sound, I (as well as many others) prefer their style from Crooked Rain on. That's not to say S&E isn't brilliantly crafted, but considering how insanely hyped it is, a lot of people find that it doesn't meet their lofty expectations.

Mês passadoS&E overrated...I'll pretend I didn't read that. There are several factors that make it at least a tie for best Pavement record, the drumming for starts. Same reason Watery, Domestic is so damn good. Gary Young had skills. And he was also a fucking nut burger. This we know.

Mês passadoSo many people hate on Pavement in this shoutbox. Look, they aren't the greatest, most inventive band ever, but they have some intangible quality that makes them extremely endearing. S&E is overrated, but I dunno how you can listen to Crooked Rain a few times and not recognize their likability. If you listened to them and didn't immediately enjoy it, I suggest giving them another chance.
