I have over 11,000 songs and there's still so much that I need to add to my collection. Patsy Cline, for example, and all the other CDs that I have tucked away somewhere in my room. I have my Britney Spears and my 2Pac and, of course, The Beatles but every day I remember another album, artist or song that I need to include in my collection or something else comes along, like the Alexandra Burke and JLS performance from the 2009 X-Factor Finale, a mash-up of Bad Boys by Alexandra and Everybody in Love from JLS. I think I need a computer solely for music, there's just too much out there that I'm missing.

I'm a stickler about having things organized so, about three or four times a year, I completely re-do my music folder. Right now, it's all in one folder - a folder for each letter of the alphabet, plus folders for soundtracks/compilation albums and my incredibly large collection of mash-ups (which, I have a feeling I'll be deleting - I don't need 3,000 mash-ups but I'll probably save a few that I really like.

Madeleine Peyroux

Sun 29 Nov – Madeleine Peyroux
Δεν γίνεται να μην χαμογελάς όταν αυτή σου σκάει το χαμόγελο στη σκηνή και δεν γίνεται να μην πιάνεται η καρδιά σου όταν μορφάζει στους στίχους «..It seems the truth is hidden where the sun don’t shine..» του
Bare Bones. Τα blues της Madeleine, προερχόμενα πότε από την country πλευρά (Walkin After Midnight – της Patsy Cline), πότε από την αμερικάνικη folk (
Dance Me To The End Of Love – Leonard Cohen) και πότε από το γαλλικό chanson (
Between The Bars.

Dig That Crazy Setzer Claus

Fri 27 Nov – 7th Annual Brian Setzer Orchestra CHRISTMAS ROCKS! Extravaganza
The Brian Setzer Orchestra rocked the Strathmore on Black Friday with their 7th Annual Christmas Rocks Extravaganza tour with wall-to-wall rockabilly and swingabilly.
Washington area rockabilly band Wendy LeBeau and Her Beaus opened for Setzer with a smoldering set, fronted by the standup bass-playing Wendy with vocals reminiscent of Patsy Cline.
Setzer took the stage with his big band, consisting of standup bassist Mark Winchester, drummer Tony Pia, a thirteen-piece brass section, and female backup vocal duo known as The Vixens (including Julie Setzer, Brian's wife).
The band opened with the Batman Theme, while a bat-masked Santa Claus tossed candy to the audience. If there were any doubts that this was going to be anything but a completely fun concert, this opening dispelled any such notions.
The first two-thirds of the main set featured the full band in all its glory, mixing it up with tricked-out traditional Christmas songs (
Sleigh Ride,
Angels We Have Heard On High), swing/rock era Christmas songs (
Dig That Crazy Santa Claus,
Boogie Woogie Santa Claus), and songs from Setzer's back catalogue including Stray Cats hits (
Sexy + 17,
This Cat's On A Hot Tin Roof). Setzer even merged the Stray Cats' signature song
Stray Cat Strut with
You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch.
After Setzer performed the only ballad of the evening (the Sinatra-esque title track to his latest album, Lonely Avenue), Setzer brought bassist Winchester and drummer Pia front and center for a set of songs played in the Stray Cats trio mode, with some assist from the Vixens. After scorching through rockabilly versions of Run Rudolph Run,
Jingle Bell Rock, and Blue Christmas, new track
Mr. Jazzer Goes Surfin' and
Fishnet Stockings, the full orchestra rejoined them for a rollicking
Rock This Town.
The three-song encore launched with the orchestra's most ambitious project, a compressed adaptation of
The Nutcracker Suite. If the ballet productions of The Nutcracker were this much fun, I might actually attend. This was followed by Setzer's crowd-pleasing resurrection of Louis Prima's
Jump Jive An' Wail. The concert ended with the as-Christmas-as-it-gets
Jingle Bells and a little Christmas miracle for the audience (I won't spoil the surprise).
The musicianship was accomplished throughout, and Setzer's signature guitarwork was simply a marvel to behold. Every member of the production appeared to be having as much fun as the audience. If you're looking for a Christmas concert event to raise your spirits and banish your inner Grinch, look no further. -
Top 10 favorite women in country
Nov 25 2009, 2h29 por wingkon
In my personal opinion...
1. Dixie Chicks - They're just a personal favorite from my childhood, with great and varied instrumentation, excellent vocals and amazing lyrics. Every song to me is special. They have a large variety of songs with different sounds from
Landslide to
Goodbye Earl. After all, it was because of them that I like country! :D
2. Shania Twain - Ok, she leans a bit more on the pop side in some of her songs, but I really don't think most artists are that consistent in making good music. Her three main studio albums have songs that will become classics such as
You're Still The One and Up!. Also, Come On Over is the top-selling country album!
3. Miranda Lambert - A badass blonde, who's first hit
Kerosene was the greatest female break-up song since You Oughta Know. It's like Joan Jett gone country! Her first two albums were great. I still need the third. ><
4. LeAnn Rimes - What a voice she has! Leann's got one of the most astounding voices I've ever heard, and she recorded her first album at 13! Her album, This Woman, is definetly a favorite. Her most memorable songs include Can't Fight The Moonlight and Something's Gotta Give.
5. Alison Krauss - I remember discovering her a long time ago, after hearing I'll Fly Away, which is probably one of my favorite bluegrass songs. Her voice is soft and sweet...kind of like Norah Jones. :p
6. Faith Hill - Along with Leann, one of the greatest vocalists I've ever heard. Her songs are great, ecspecially
This Kiss.
7. Jennifer Nettles - Vocalist for Sugarland. She's got an amazing and unique voice perfect for country. All I Wanna Do and
Already Gone are two of the best recent country songs I've heard.
8. Gretchen Wilson - Her songs capture the spirit of being a white trash redneck, and she's not ashamed either!
Redneck Woman and All I Wanna Do among other tracks show she's not afraid to sing about drinking and partying. Gotta love the attitude :p
9. Deana Carter - Did I Shave My Legs For This? is a very underrated album.
Strawberry Wine, her best known song, is one of those few songs which take me all the way back to my childhood. Plus, her voice is amazingly adorable. :D
10. Reba McEntire - She's low because I haven't listened to her too much, but her voice is astounding and very unique. How she lost Best Female Vocalist is beyond me
Honorable Mentions:
Patsy Cline - The first country artist I've ever listened to. She is quite amazing, but I'd feel bad if I didn't put her near the top. :p
Martina McBride - Wonderful singer and great lyricist, ecspecially Anyways
SHeDaisy - A great group, and Knock on the Sky should be added to the collection of any country fan
Sorry, I didn't include Taylor Swift or Carrie Underwood, and don't expect me to do so anytime soon. -
My Hummingbird 100 Female Songs of all-time which I voted for + some more
Nov 17 2009, 17h55 por BlackCoffeeDuck
This from the HOTTEST FEMALE SONGS!!! Kind-off like Triple J's Hottest 100 of All-time early in the year but only female artists because there was very few women in Triple J's countdown. It's run by a new beer called Hummingbird and some pay TV channel (I don't know which one because I don't watch it). It's a cool idea and I found it so hard to cut it down just to ten in the end so I just made my own 100 tracks from my favourite female artists.

My Top Ten Votes
1. Portishead - Glory Box
2. Kate Bush -
Cloudbusting
3. Sarah Blasko -
{Explain}
4. Nina Simone -
Sinnerman
5. Fiona Apple -

6. Björk -
Army Of Me
7. Cat Power - Cross Bones Style
8. Beth Orton -
Stolen Car
9. PJ Harvey -
This Is Love
10. Magic Dirt - Dirty Jeans
This was very, very, very, very hard (have I made it clear how hard this was?) But I picked songs which I could listen to on repeat which I have done in the past (not here on last.fm yet). Most tracks are from the 90's too (I grew-up in that decade, if you haven't all ready guessed). It seems like last.fm's journals are made up of long lists of songs so I've joined in again with my very, very long short list of songs that didn't make it into the top ten. These songs can be any thing that I love really It's from A to Z (well it's Y really, then V). It's selected from the list of tracks which are on their website but I've added a few of my own ones at the end. If you have no idea what I'm talking about go here and read all about it (there's only 4 days left to vote so hop too it).

So that is it. It wasn't so hard really (but cutting it down to ten was). I've most likely missed something which I'll remember later and be kicking myself about but I'm pretty happy with this mix. It seems my favorite female singer songwriter is Beth Gibbons with my number 1 track in my top ten. Plus two more Portishead songs and one from Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man project album. If you don't know she wrote My Secret for Jane Birkin a few years ago too. That adds up to five tracks out of one hundred which is not many but more that anyone else.
Anyway what do you think??? I liked writing these journal entries but I do like reading you comments and It's also the only way I can tell if anyone has been reading or looking at them. Thanks and bye for now. -
