On with the show and the next decade of my life. What happened in 1994? Green Day released Dookie. Kurt Cobain shot himself. Justin Bieber was born. Oh my...
Corrosion of Conformity - Deliverance
I believe I was introduced to COC in the early 2000's when the stoner rock boom was still going strong. I remember Deliverance getting played a lot back then and although a lot of music I listened to in those days has somewhat fallen out of favor, Deliverance is still probably my favorite COC album. Though not necessarily prototypical stoner rock, Deliverance's hard edged southern rock fit perfectly on the same playlists as Kyuss, Monster Magnet and the like. I suppose these days the term "stoner rock" could be used more to describe a movement than a genre of music as a lot of bands were simply lumped under that term during that particular time period. …

As terrible as the mainstream got in the 90's (real dark ages for sure), there was an incredible amount of quality music released just as well. No shortage of great albums to pick from so I gotta go with the classics here.
Danzig - Danzig III: How the Gods Kill
"I'm gonna stand, at the top of the world, challenge the heavens, gonna bring you god"
For whatever reason Danzig III isn't the most memorable Danzig record for me. I find myself overlooking it quite a bit and I really shouldn't because it is a terrific album. Coming off the heels of Danzig II, the album has some mighty big shoes to fill. The approach here is slightly more straightforward with power chord driven rockers dominating the tracklist. Even so, Danzig III includes two of Danzig's best (power) ballads - "How The Gods Kill" and "Sistinas". Good stuff and nothing but.

Jan 4 2014, 21h30 por spikemobileJust like last year, over this year I checked several bands out and listened to the whole back catalogue, which hampered my objectivity concerning records of 2013 - if last year was the year for checking out some pop-punk bands and thrash legends, this year I was busy with Jay-Z, Kanye West, Bon Jovi, Dagoba, Ektomorf, Soulfly, Machine Head, Bullet for My Valentine as well as diving into some old-school Christian hard rock and metal artists such as Deliverance, Angelica, Saint and Seventh Angel. Oh and another occupation of mine was checking out everchanging collection of free downloads at Noisetrade.
Nevertheless, some of the records of 2013 left quite a lasting impression upon me.
Here are some Honorable mentions:
* Sepultura - The Mediator Between Head and Hands Must Be the Heart
* Relient K - Collapsible Lung
* Defeater - Letters Home
* My Epic - Behold
* Beautiful Eulogy - Instruments Of Mercy
* Dessa - Parts of Speech
* Deliverance - Hear What I Say!
* Benea Reach - Possession
