@ambybunny my understanding was any license with -SA was Copyleft and that this was simply not free culture. Also, not all countries have a legal doctrine called "public domain" so that may be a source of confusion

The irony here is neither the album or the song are licensed with a copyleft license, the lyrics claiming the song is "copyleft" and "public domain" make no sense. There are six CC-licenses, from which the non-commercial (nc) and no derivatives (nd) are not free licenses, not copyleft. The whole album is released with a CC by-nc-sa license which prohibits any commercial use. Restricting the commercial use is by far not the same as giving the all the same rights the originator has to the receiver of the work, which is what copyleft does. That means, copyleft licenses (like CC by-sa and GPL) do not restrict commercial uses. Using a CC-license doesn't automatically make something copyleft. ``CC-by-nc-sa, which requires non-commercial use only is share-alike but is not free content, and thus cannot be considered a Copyleft license."
