New album, eh? I listened to it a few days ago and enjoyed it, I ought to listen to it again.

It grew on me with a few more listens. It shows promise. It just took me a few minutes to shake my expectations for what kind of sound they would be bringing to the table.

lots of complaints about the lyrics but i think they're great as usual, especially on a girl in port. wow

it's not black sheep boy, but that's not a BAD thing. bsb isn't the be-all/end-all of okkervil river records. it just sounds like okkervil river stayed in mossy old damp castles to write bsb and for the stage names, they drove cross country and stayed in cheap motels and laughed a lot. it's different, but it's good. and as much as i adore BSB, i'm relieved that they're trying something new.

agree with the latest trend in comments, doesn’t seem to have the same substance as previous releases. good instrumentals but, vocally, it seems to be lacking abit in the passion department. thats my first impression anyway. hopefully its a grower…

New album is good and all... catchier though. I can clap my hands along to a lot of the songs and I feel like I should get something else out of Okkervil River. Black Sheep Boy had so much heart... I don't feel that from this yet. Maybe it'll stick with a few more listens. Good, though so don't get me wrong.
