Sun 4 Oct – OI VA VOI im TOLLHAUS Karlsruhe

Well, they started late and the crowd was not too big. The divided the auditorium though.

It was my first experience with this band. I was recently teased by S'brent and luckily there was this concert nearby.

What should I say - the band played rather short. The small audience was in good mood and rather active. So was Anna Phoebe on the violin. Bridgette Amofah's voice received rave reviews in the music press and on the internet. Unfortunately I was not able to discover this.

I am a little disappointed - nevertheless it was a nice opportunity to see and hear Oi Va Voi in this concert, though they played only 60+ minutes.

Vanaf augustus gaan Melkweg en Sugar Factory een structurele samenwerking aan voor het organiseren van concerten. Het afgelopen jaar hebben de podia, die tegenover elkaar gelegen zijn, als try-out een aantal concerten neergezet. De samenwerking bevalt dermate goed dat deze nu verder gestructureerd wordt. Door deze samenwerking wordt meer ruimte gecreëerd voor opkomend nationaal en internationaal talent op de Amsterdamse podia.

Overburen Melkweg en Sugar Factory hebben naast hun locatie veel meer gemeen. Beide culturele instellingen willen door middel van een divers en multidisciplinair programma een breed publiek bereiken. Al vanaf de opening van Sugar Factory werd gesproken over samenwerking. Bij diverse festivals en evenementen werden beide locaties de afgelopen jaren al aan elkaar gekoppeld.

Sinds juli 2008 zijn demelkweg en sugar factory op try-out basis concerten gaan organiseren. De Melkweg wilde graag de mogelijkheid creëren tot het organiseren van concerten op kleinere schaal dan in de bestaande zalen mogelijk was. Sugar Factory had behoefte om de programmering van livemuziek verder uitbreiden. Het afgelopen jaar zijn door de Melkweg meerdere geslaagde concerten neergezet in Sugar Factory, waaronder Kool Keith, Converge, Madcon, Oi Va Voi en Stuurbaard Bakkebaard.

Vanaf augustus 2009 gaan beide partijen een structurele samenwerking aan, op basis van de positieve ervaringen van het afgelopen jaar. In het najaar presenteert de Melkweg in Sugar Factory onder andere concerten van Jay Brannan (4 sep.) en The Death Letters (20 nov.)


Creatief directeur van Sugar Factory Jacek Rajewski over de samenwerking:”Deze samenwerking is perfect omdat Sugar Factory de technische voorzieningen heeft om Melkweg zijn live muziekprogramma uit te laten breiden en zo samen een kraamkamer te bieden voor het talent.”

Algemeen directeur Cor Schlösser van de Melkweg: “Sugar Factory heeft het formaat zaal dat in het gebouw van de Melkweg ontbreekt. Het is een ideale locatie voor concerten van 200-400 bezoekers. Deze samenwerking biedt de Melkweg meer mogelijkheden om jong talent een plek te bieden.”

Soms heb je van die avonden dat je blij verrast wordt. Zo ook afgelopen donderdag in de Lux in Nijmegen. In de kleine, maar akoestisch fijne zaal knalde Oi Va Voi van het podium. Ze begonnen gelijk met dansbare platen, gecombineerd met nummers van het nieuwe album traveling the face of the globe . Wat een kwaliteit heeft deze band en wat een energie geven ze over op het publiek. Ze gingen er helemaal voor en dat werd goed en luidkeels gewaardeerd. Het laatste nummer stond zowaar de hele zaal mee te dansen. Eindelijk weer een concert waar ik met een bijzonder goed gevoel naar huis ben gegaan!
