It is progressive rock. Just alot more complex.

This album reminds me of September Malevolence. I do like it, but it is definetly no longer progressive rock. I know each artist changes their direction, but this is taking it a bit too far.

This album is just as progressive, just as complex, just as layered, and just as emotional as the first two. And on top of that, the band remained as uniquely catchy as they were on earlier releases. I embrace this release as a new direction for Oceansize...less hectic than Effloresce, less grungy than EIP, but just as soulful and pleasing...It's most definitely the most post-rocky release - but I just can't see how after listening to tracks such as Savant, The Frame, and Only Twin people can say 'size has lost the emotion. The latter half of Only Twin alone is the most musical soul-crushing moment in the 21st century in my opinion.

I took sort of a detour to this album. At first I thought that it was the least awsome album of theirs (I rank them: 1.Effloresce 2. EIP and naturally 3. Frames) BUT since I got the Music for nurses EP I kinda grew into this one. I don't know if they sound alike at all but that EP helped me understand Frames a little better. The ranking stands though but it is more of a photo finish now than before :D

As a whole, you are right, I also consider Frames much more post-rocky, a big contrast to EIP, not as much to Effloresce (last 3 songs were quite post-rockish too). That I liked a lot, EIP being my least favorite album, as I already said. ;) I don't know, to me, EIP doesn't have that fragile beauty that I like so much about Oceansize. There are more heavy, rhythm-based rock songs with great guitar riffs, but not the slowly evoling sound collages that Frames and (partly) Effloresce have. Of course, I have to make a big exception here, which is Ornament, of course. As for Music for a Nurse: IMO Oceansize has similar songs that are way better. Almost every track of Frames, really.

Confu I'd have to disagree with you on Frames' sound. I'd say it was much more post rocky, like post metal almost! There are parts where it makes me imagine if Thrice played post rock, it would probably sound something like this. But definately not as cool.

Frames is even greater than Effloresce I think. EIP is their most accessible, but also worst release imho. What Jamah_ha says is true, Frames is their deepest release, the most progressive, and maybe not as accessible. But once you got into it you get absorbed by its atmospheres, its melodies, its rhythms. In my opinion, people who don't like Frames just aren't patient enough or don't "get it". I mean, come on, this album is ingenious, every single track. Savant is divine, Sleeping Dogs And Dead Lions rhythmically complex and unusually heavy, almost brutal (like Oceansize covered a Meshuggah song), and The Frame is, as usual for 'Size, an unbelievable ending to an unbelievable album. Folks, if you don't like this, give it another listen! It's worth it.

yes, anti-numb is kinda right in a way... i loved a few songs of this album... Commemorative 9/11 T-Shirt is more of a 'every1 into position' kind if track if u ask me. brilliantly done, so is trail of fire. the rest are gud but didn't do it entirely for me.. notthing beats the makes of charm offensive, amputee, heaven alive. so ya, dis album.... not my favourite unfortunately.. but gre8 nevertheless.. those are jus my takes.. :) 'size \m/

@ anti-numb: that's interesting, I kind of had that reaction at first (was my first 'size album as well), but now it's definitely my favourite album of theirs. It's less immediately accessible maybe, but I think that's part of its strength because there's a lot more depth to the songs. There's also something quite stripped down and raw about it - it feels more expressive and focused somehow - like they've really found and mastered their own unique 'sound.' So I would argue it's got even more 'soul,' emotion etc, even if it's less obvious. But of course that's just what I think, and I change my mind all the time, so...

Am I the only one who doesn't like this album? I was really excited to see (or hear) something like Everyone Into Position but (sadly) i was disappointed when i heard this album. It sounds so feelingless to me. I tried to love it but couldn't. The other albums had soul, morales, and alot of character.. I feel that frames had none of this.
