Now that 2010 is nearly over, it’s high time to look back. First of all, I think it was a very good year, musicwise. Truth be told, I did not discover very many new bands, but quite a few of my favourite artists, released some of the best records in their careers. Number one, beyond any doubt, is Natalie Merchant, whose Leave Your Sleep is absolutely enchanting. Josh Rouse also made an impression with the new turn his music has taken. I did not really know The National and Tift Merritt before this year, but I’m happy to have finally discovered both. The only 2010 band in my list of favourites is Warpaint, whose The Fool has turned out to be an extremely addictive debut, though I like their EP Exquisite Corps even better.
Joanna Newsom’s Have One On Me is not as good as its predecessor Ys, but its beautiful nonetheless.
