Dez 26 2008, 16h52 por Quicksand2271. Opeth - Watershed (Special Edition)
Like many others, I got into Opeth through the masterpiece Damnation. I was really not a fan of growling (and I still dislike most bands who use it), but Mikael Åkerfeldt's songwriting on Damnation was so amazing and influenced my own songs so much that I just sort of had to take the risk and buy this new "regular" Opeth release.
I'm very glad I did.
Strangely enough, the heaviest song on the record, Heir Apparent, was - besides Coil of course ;) - the first track I really got into and it's still one of my favourite Opeth songs (I also bought Deliverance and Blackwater Park in the meantime).
Hessian Peel is really the standout track for me on Watershed. The way it builds up, the divine "verse" part and the heavy climax make this song one of the best I've heard in my entire life. It just captures everything I love about Opeth.
Dez 8 2008, 20h34 por CaptainGaylordbear in mind there's a ton of albums that came out this year that i haven't heard, also many that i KNOW i need to hear, like the new Sigur Ros. ....why haven't i heard that, anyway?
the hell is my problem...
anyway. on we go. aren't you excited?
25. Friendly Fires - Friendly Fires
awesome! finally an indie band that's not married to either the dance-punk sound or the "look how depressed i am" sound or the cookie cutter indie alternative sound. loves it.
current favorites: In the Hospital, Skeleton Boy
24. Shiny Toy Guns - Season of Poison
i haven't had much of a chance to listen to this yet, but from what i've heard i can see that the energy from the debut is intact. i do think the addition of heavy guitars was a good idea, it kind of separates them from that whole neo-electro scene they were lumped in with.
current favorites: Ghost Town, Ricochet!
23. Chairlift - Does You Inspire You
damn. i've got to tell you what a loser i felt like when i found out that bruises was in a commercial…
Jul 24 2008, 12h43 por JhaanThis ist about Nine Inch Nails' newest release: The Slip. I've downloaded it the very day it was released under Creative Commons License totally for free on nin.com (although the limited edition on CD ist out now, it's still available there!). Like the most albums of NIN, it took me awhile to warm up with it.
After Trent Reznors experiment with all-instrumental Ghosts I-IV and the very soon release of The Slip, I was a bit skeptical 'bout it. All the times it has been years and years for NIN to release a new record. Would this short production time mean a lesser quality? Listening to The Slip for the first time it seems as if my fears became truth. Half of the (to be honest relativly few) tracks sounded like some more of the Ghosts thing (wich I din't like that much). I am not shure but I think at this time only Echoplex and Head Down appeared to me as good ones.
I've read some reviews that state The Slip as a mixture of all sounds from older records and name similarities for all tracks. …

1. Nine Inch Nails
Back in angsty ol' middle school, all I listened to was Evanescence, Linkin Park (sometimes), and Nightwish (sometimes). When I used to go to Best Buy all the time, I'd see advertisements for the new deluxe version of The Downward Spiral. I never really thought much of them because I didn't know who the hell NIN was, but one day I was sitting on my computer browsing some message board or another and I thought "hey, let's find some NIN". So I did. Opened up LimeWire (yeah yeah) and got a few songs off of Spiral, and I fell in love instantly. For the next few days I tried to piece together the entire Downward Spiral album through LimeWire downloads, and eventually I succeeded. And that's the beginning of my story.
