  • Year in Revision: 2008

    Dez 12 2009, 8h26 por DreadfulHero

Here it is, folks: The last blast from the past. I think I should call this entry "2009: The Place that Albums from 2008 Go to Die." Truth is, I've listened to a lot less music this year than in recent years (probably from '04-'08, at least). And when I have listened to music, it's mostly been to the same handful of albums that will undoubtedly make my top 10 or so albums of the year. While I can rank albums from 2000-2007 due to how I've come to look at all of them over a longer period of time, I haven't given 2008's album much a second thought since the year ended. And so, this year probably won't factor much into my best albums of the decade (two might. We'll see). There have been a few changes, however.

    1. The Stills - Oceans Will Rise

    2. Elbow- The Seldom Seen Kid

    3. Blood Red Shoes - Box Of Secrets

    4. Weezer - Weezer (Red Album Deluxe)

    5. My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges

    6. Copeland - You Are My Sunshine

    7. Lovedrug - The Sucker Punch Show

    8. The Hush Sound - Goodbye Blues

    9. Paper Rival - Dialog

    10. Earlimart - Hymn And Her

Stay tuned for my Best of 2009 list, which I suspect will have about 15 albums. If only I had more time to let things digest, I might be able to stretch it to 20. C'est la vie! And after that, I will publish some of my favorite songs of the year, with a link included to a zip file of the listed tracks. And then... the best albums of the decade (wish me luck!). And the best songs of the decade (wish me even more luck!)

  • Year in Revision: 2005

    Dez 4 2009, 8h37 por DreadfulHero

Here it is: 2005. The year I've been mildly not looking forward to. How people who have 50+ albums a year can manage to compile any sort of "Best of ___" list is beyond me. This year saw 31 albums for me! That is a personal best. 2005 was just a good year for me personally, too, if but for a short while. Maybe that had something to do with it? Anyway, with over 30 albums I have to list fifteen albums here, and sometimes the ranking is a little sketchy. Pretty sure on the first seven though:

    1. Mew - And The Glass Handed Kites

    2. Foo Fighters - In Your Honor

    3. My Morning Jacket - Z

    4. Doves - Some Cities

    5. Giant Drag - Hearts And Unicorns

    6. Starflyer 59 - Talking Voice vs. Singing Voice

    7. Maria Taylor - 11:11

    8. Nada Surf - The Weight Is a Gift

    9. Bright Eyes - Digital Ash in a Digital Urn

    10. The New Pornographers - Twin Cinema

    11. The Like - Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking?

    12. dredg - Catch Without Arms

    13. Sufjan Stevens - Illinois

    14. Cave In - Perfect Pitch Black

    15. The Life and Times- Suburban Hymns

Hmm, four of these artists still haven't released follow-ups. And thus, the tide of the recording industry begins to change. . .

Or does it? Both Maria Taylor and Starflyer 59 have released two albums each in the same span. What the--?

  • NME's "The top 100 greatest albums of the decade" and me [100-51]

    Nov 26 2009, 16h53 por leelaa

NME published a list of the top 100 albums of the start of this century along with a top 100 tracks one and now instead of just reading it, I decided to also do some thing with it.
My problem with NME lists is, that they're pretty narrow minded with their focus on mostly british and US music. But since this was the first list I came across, I'll use this one, starting with the places 100 till 51.

The top 100 greatest albums of the decade
    http://www.nme.com/list/albums-of-the-decade/158049

I know they exist, but I really can't remember them anymore

93 Clap Your Hands Say Yeah Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
    (2005)
    wasn't really that much interested

    92 The Sleepy Jackson Lovers
    (2003)
Sleepy Jackson argh!! Reminds me of a great birthday actually, but muscially...nope!
