Adam Lamberts is all the rage this year.
Definitely the most anticipated album from this season of American Idol and the expectations are real high. After being over exposed as some reinvention of 70s glam rock on a show whose normally seen as producing cookie cutter pop acts, Adam has the weight of the music industry on his back and I can safely say that he delivers quite well.
The album is not what you'd expect from the medias portrayal of him but he made it quite clear from the beginning that he was into modern pop acts like Britney and electronic dance pop like GaGa. He does however pay homage to glam rock. His album cover is a very modern yet futuristic take on David Bowies Hunky Dory cover, or at least thats how I saw it :) Mixed throughout the electronic catchiness in his debut is hints of modern pop, glam, rock, alternative, and edginess. He goes from a The Darkness like starter (Music Again) to a ballady song, Soaked, written by Matt Belamy of Muse showing he can do all styles quite well like he did on Idol.
Standouts: Music Again, If I Had You, Pick U Up, Sleepwalker
Weak Points: A Loaded Smile, Broken Open
The album is seriously a 9/10. For a debut on an Idol contract, whose known to be VERY controlling, he exceeded my expectations. An Idol debut hasn't been this solid since Carrie Underwoods in 2005. Now all thats left is to see if he pulls a Clay Aiken and outsells the winner Kris Allen who also had a solid debut. Though sales don't matter its always nice to see who'll come out on top.
Pick it up on Monday the 23rd. -
