  • Mummy the Peepshow: "This Is Egg Speaking..."

(Benten, 1999).

#1, only because it introduced me to the wonder that is The Stalin :D #40 is super catchy,so it made this a tough choice.

No, cause I only listened to it today XP

    3. What album is #26 from?
I found it off of the Benten Punk Bentoh V.A., but I'm guessing BLEACH have an album/l.p with the song on it.

    4. What do you think about the artist who did #15?
Haven't heard a lot from them, but I think (from what I have heard) that there are a lot of better hardcore bands out there (that doesn't mean they're not good though!)

    Yep!

  • Huh?

    Jul 16 2006, 4h29 por Ureshii2

My computer is totally fucked up. Everytime I turn it on, it shuts off after a few minutes and I smell something burning. I'm disappointed.

Well, recently I've been listening to Sambomaster. I'm enjoying it.

I'm also listening to an awful lot of Luminous Orange as of late, and I'm very impressed. I only have one album (Vivid Short Trip) but.. it's really fantastic, and I foresee them (her? Rie Takeuchi) making their way into my not-so-selective list of favorites.

I'm really excited to hear the new noodles album, too. They have a few tracks up on their MySpace, and so far I'm very pleased.

Today, I also found out that SPARTA LOCALS are releasing another album this summer. I have no doubt that it will be amazing. They're really incredible, and if you haven't heard them, it's strongly recommended.

And while I'm recommending things, here..

    Small Rainbow Meets Rain Drops

Please, get this. If you don't like it, I apologize, but.. oh well.

    Beris Beris

Admittedly, this is the kind of album that kind of requires a specific taste, but if you're like me, it easily blows just about everything else out of the water. Some of the best music I've ever heard. Plus, who doesn't love Tatsuya Kashima (ex-the pillows bassist) and Tadashi Ueda (guest keyboards on several the pillows albums). Ah, speaking of the pillows I saw them a while ago in New York City, and it was a lot of fun. But the setlist was really boring.. Well, lead singer Sawao complimented my noodles t-shirt. Haha.

Let me think.. what else.. Oh, well, yeah, if you haven't heard Sparta Locals yet, go and listen to SUN SUN SUN. I can't see anyone disliking that album. Go watch the tokyo ballerina or the Yume Station PVs on YouTube if you're too lazy to buy/download an album.

Guh.. I really want to buy some NUMBER GIRL scorebooks.. I've also got to order the new noodles album, and buy my mother a birthday present.

Ahh.. I guess Omoide In My Head 2 Kiroku Series 2 will have to wait.. :(

Meanwhile, I'll enjoy Mummy the Peepshow's Electric Roller Girl US Tour VHS. They're pretty cute, and School Girl Pop is a great album. I haven't gotten as into their other albums, but I'm sure they're good too (I actually own Electric Roller Girl, but I've only listened extensively to a few songs (including their incredible cover of the Smiths' This Charming Man).

    I love music.

  • Cover Songs Databases + my Covers tag

    Mai 17 2006, 17h08 por moonlitkitty

Are there any good ones out there other than The Covers Project and Second Hand Songs? Both are quite good, but hardly comprehensive. The biggest drawback for both is the submissions process. Covers Project's being non-existent now, and Second Hand Songs requiring you to post a list in the forum for the sitemaster to approve and add (eventually).

There's just no way I could be bothered searching the forum to check if what I want to suggest is pending, writing out a list, finding references etc. I'd like to enter songs as I think of them on a form. Covers Project at least used to have this, but also relied on approval by the site owner(s).

Is there a covers database operating as a wiki? If not, can some smart person create this please? Also a discography wiki site would be most welcome.

Now for the music: here's my covers tag. There are lots of weird and wonderful things in there:

April March and her Chick Habit/Paris In April albums where she covers Serge Gainsbourg, Francoise Hardy, France Gall, Gillian Hills, Dani etc... though I seem to have included these albums on most of my tags, so they might have to go.

    Judy Mowatt covers Van Morrison.

Pat Harris covers Chan Romero (presumably via the Beatles). What I like about this is it sounds like Cartman from Southpark singing it.

Ruby Rats cover Martha Reeves And The Vandellas

Obscure Quebec 60s girl group Trio Sourire cover the Rolling Stones' 'Satisfaction' in French... and Devo's version is in there too.

Cowboy Junkies cover The Velvet Underground

    Johnny Hallyday covers Los Brincos

    Stereo Total cover
Serge Gainsbourg, Vanessa Paradis and Cher

Eileen covers Nancy Sinatra in French

    Thee Headcoatees cover Richard Berry

    Jose Gonzalez covers Kylie Minogue

I Am the World Trade Center cover The Jam

The Detroit Cobras cover Mary Wells

Vanessa Paradis covers The Velvet Underground

    Blonde Redhead cover Serge Gainsbourg

    Altered Images cover Neil Diamond

Chicks on Speed cover Tom Tom Club

    Belgium's Vive la Fête cover
    Serge Gainsbourg & Charlotte Gainsbourg

    Sonia covers
The Rolling Stones adorably in Italian

Monique Gaube covers Lulu in French

Japanese ukulele girls Petty Booka cover Van Halen

    T.A.T.U cover The Smiths

The Byrds cover Bob Dylan x 2

Teenage Fanclub with Jad Fair cover Daniel Johnston

    Cat Power covers Phil Phillips

    Johnny Cash covers Depeche Mode

    Suzi Quatro covers David Hill/Elvis

Francoise Hardy covers Leonard Cohen en francais

French chanteuse Marie Laforet covers Margo Guryan in Italian - this is just gorgeous.

Visage cover Zager And Evans' 'In The Year 2525', a song that always amuses me with its rather vague predictions of doom.

Mummy the Peepshow cover The Smiths

    Flamin' Groovies cover Bob Dylan

    Sonic Youth cover The Carpenters

    Revolting Cocks cover Rod Stewart

    The Breeders cover The Beatles

Jenny Lewis with The Watson Twins cover Travelling Wilburys

Yo La Tengo cover Jackson Browne

Kahimi Karie covers 70s Spanish songstress Jeanette, and a Japanese 60s artist I can't remember on 'Giapponese A Roma'... anyone?

Andy Williams' 'Music To Watch Girls By' gets a French take by Natacha Snitkine and sci-fi take by Leonard Nimoy

The Wannadies cover The Go-Betweens... although the Swedish accent fails to convince me of the line "I come from Brisbane" ;)

Madeleine Peyroux covers Elliot Smith - this is beautiful.

Hi-Posi covers France Gall's mindblowing German pop track, 'Computer Nr 3'... I am hoping a Hi-Posi fan can help me out here. There is a track from Hi-Posi called 'The Computer No. 3' which sounds a little like France Gall's in some parts. But 'I'll Never Whistle' is unambiguously a cover of the song. Are they both covers, or are these mislabelled?

The Fall cover R. Dean Taylor

Phew! That's enough connections - I'm not going to keep adding them as I update the tag. But if you are curious to know the original artists of any new additions, always feel free to ask on here.
