  • To my ears...

    Mar 4 2009, 8h41 por misterpockets

Recently I have found myself in that awesome position of really digging into some new (at least for my ears) music.
I think it sort of started with my over listening to Tripswitch's Circuit Breaker album, which I still think is just the friggin bomb. Anyhow, that kind set my mood for more down tempo leaning stuff than I had been listening too.
That I think led me back to Ulrich Schnauss, who I have been a fan of for a few years now, but never really got sucked into.
    Well, I inhaled deeply.

And, man it is some good shit. I even went so far as to BUY some of his CD's online. I do realize I am some sort of freak for actually doing that, but good music made by good people on small labels deserve our money. (Oh and I was also able to find Circuit Breaker as well. Got it too)
Sticking Ulrich Schnauss into the last.fm player also got me to discover Abfahrt Hinwil and their album Links Berge Rechts Seen. They are on the Toytronic lable, which my friend Mr. Projectile used to be on as well.
Their music is much more idm/minimal, than the other stuff, but still pretty nice.

And then lastly, mr. projectile shared with me a link to a song on Jon Hopkins website, and I was immediately hooked and proceeded to buy his two albums fro his labels ( Just Music ) site the next day.
And wow... They are great. Simply brilliant stuff. Just tasty as hell. Contact Note and Opalescent are just amazing. Friggin' buy them!
Oh and if that weren't enough, Jon Hopkins is going to be performing live in San Francisco on March 21st @ Mezzanine with Four Tet!

I gotta say, last.fm is the shit. It continues to turn me on to new music and keep me mindful of artists I like who are performing near me.

And lastly, two of those CD's I got came from Juno Records . They are a great online CD store for electronic music and they are FAST. I order two discs on monday night, from England, and they showed up here, in San Francisco, on thursday the same week. WTF!? Yes i paid for the FedEx shipping, but it was only like 3 bucks more... but DAMN that is fast.

  • pH ambient/dubstep mix "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing"

    http://www.darkaudio.co.uk?artid=497&traid=916
Wow! so here we have it, my first dubstep mix and what a beauty. The road towards this was arduous, after a months work it was nearly completed only for it to be erased in the accidental computer format incident of September. By some miracle I was able to recover the original file and make some last minute edits to it.
I had to complete the tracklist from memory and there is only one track I can't name. Please let me know what it is!
It starts off very ambient and light hearted, then journeys to the dark depths of dubstep before coming full circle with a party Roll Deep number, and The Brunettes indie pop hit 'B.A.B.Y.' Finally it ends with the epic 'pusher track, Iambic 9 Poetry, which holds a special place in my heart and always brings a smile to my face.

  • Travel Sickness

    Out 20 2007, 23h29 por liftmuziek

Look what finally arrived in my mailbox today! I tracked it down through gemm.com, and had it shipped all the way form Spain. And it's worth it every penny!!!

Oh, the beautiful 12" sized wooden box that still has a wonderful aroma of cedar. The eight tiny 3" CDs with minimalistic design of butterflies. The packaging is simply outstanding. But it's not just about the package (although this beats any MP3 download hands down) - it's also about the music on this perfect Hymen release from February 2006.

    cd1. Lusine ICL
    cd2. SolarX[masters of meanders]
    cd3. Lowfish
    cd4. Gridlock
cd5. Psi Spy [lost and found]
cd6. Snog [seven hymns for the worker bee]
    cd7. Hecq
cd8. Mad EP [eine kleine madmusik]

    oi oi oi oi oi!!!
I'm so excited. Ripping these to lossless and shutting off all phones and closing all doors to submerge myself in travel sickness!

  • solipsistic NATION No. 60: Delicate

    Out 19 2007, 19h31 por solipsisticast

I was waiting for a rainy day to record today’s show because all the music is so delicate and beautiful. But I live in San Diego and rainy days in Southern California are rare. It’s difficult to listen to music that’s fragile or moody when the sun is always shining. Sometimes you need overcast skies or fog to accompany that kind of music but as luck would have it, it rained.

Today’s show is dedicated to Lady Jaye Breyer P-Orridge, wife of industrial music pioneer Genesis P-Orridge and member of Psychic TV. She died of heart failure last Tuesday. My condolences to go out to Genesis P-Orridge and his family.

  • Spoiled rotten

    Nov 14 2006, 21h35 por spxl

Having quite a few friends who are quite in to their music (up to those who are seriously involved), and in whose company vast quantities of awesome tracks are laid down, it often makes the sit-down-and-listen-to-music-at-home experience less gratifying than it could be.

My taste in music has certainly changed over the years, and despite occasionally laying out hundreds of dollars on CDs, throwing a few tracks on myself isn't quite the same as having two or three friends mixing it up with a vast stores of (often rare) wax.

I'm now used to having "my own personal DJ". I think there's an element of laziness there as well, as choosing tracks does require effort, but I think it's also about the variety, depth, range... and the surprise.

Out of the probably weeks-worth of music I have access to, I've recently found myself loving to death (well, I hope not) a series of mixes posted by "Asmadeus" (a Chicago-based DJ). I guess what a DJ does it take the absolute cream of thousands of available tracks and refines that down to a few hours of only the best stuff. I even found myself, when hand-picking a compilation, that I went through a hell of a lot of tracks to just pick out a handful. Is it jadedness, or evolution?

I think I'm just spoiled rotten.
