  • Summer Smackdown - Epicentre

    Ago 2 2009, 18h30 por xShawNx

Yesterday, I took a trip down to San Diego with a few friends to go see Funny People and hit up the Epicentre for the Summer Smackdown show, which consists of a few local bands and such. As a side note, Funny People was a great movie and you should go see it.

    The Bands (in order)
She Screams Remedy, Adalia, Mozart Season, The Subtle Way, He is a Painter, AdestriA, Thy Kingdom Come, and A City Serene.

I only have one complaint, but it is a biggie
-The crowd was dead beyond all belief until AdestriA came on (third to last band out of eight), which made me really sad especially since some bands deserved the recognition. Like Mozart Season!

    Top 3 Performances
    1) Thy Kingdom Come
    2) Mozart Season
    3) AdestriA

    Notenotenotes
-I chatted with Nate and Benton of Mozart Season. Nice group of guys, Benton even added me on Myspace the day after the show. Felt bad for Nate though because he got the flu earlier that week and it was still going. Also picked up their EP regardless that I have it on my iPod. Nice to help out a band in need.
-Jon Mess wasn't there to do his vocals on MZ's "Look Mom, I'm On TV". But that didn't stop MZ from performing it so well.
-They had a raffle going on but I didn't bother to buy any tickets. Mainly because I didn't have enough money. Prizes ranged from merch to tickets for future shows including Owl City and the Artery Metal Tour with Bleeding Through.
-Once the pit started going, it was pretty fun. A must for each show I go to is to dance, so I fulfilled that requirement. Members from some of the bands that played even got down.
-There were cute girls up the ying-yang at this show. I really hope I am able to move back down to San Diego after high school.

The crowd that night may have been a major drag, but when the show got going, it really got going. Glad I finally got to see Mozart Season after a long time. Speaking of whom, if you haven't already, I highly suggest you check out their EP "Apotheosis". If you're a fan of pre-Happiness Dance Gavin Dance, check out "Look Mom, I'm On Tv" feat. Jon Mess. You won't regret it.

  • Fagcore

    Fev 8 2008, 22h38 por RealMenEatCorn

Here is a list of some of the bands I consider to belong to the musically and masculinely inferior genre "Fagcore", and my opinion is always the truth. In case you're an ignorant prick not conversant with the meaning of this word, it's a genre with music comprised of faggy girl like vocals (performed by boys who haven't reached sexual maturity yet, which is evident when considering the profound absence of manliness in the singing), hence the "Fag" prefix. Furthermore these kinda bands are characterized by a sort of wannabe hXc kind of screaming, which often fails, hence the ironic suffix "core".
however, im not saying that all of these bands necessarily
suck arse, im just saying that they belong to this genre. a handfull of 'em are actually quite listenable, although that doenst make them less fagcore.

    Alesana
    The Vesper Fairchild Broadcast
    A Vain Attempt
    A Static Lullaby
    Blessthefall
    The Devil Wears Prada
    Underoath (newer stuff)
    Chemical Vocation
    Senses Fail
    Drop Dead, Gorgeous
    Aiden
I Set My Friends On Fire
    Silverstein
    From Autumn to Ashes
    From First to Last
    Hawthorne Heights
    Dance Gavin Dance
    Your Name In Vain
    The Used
    Chiodos
    Funeral for a Friend
    Saosin
    Remember Eden
    Mozart Season
    Enter Shikari
    A Skylit Drive
    Emarosa
    dicember
    Herbrightskies
    Adept
    Agony Accepted
    Fordirelifesake
    Nearest The Positive
    LoveHateHero
Eyes Set to Kill (however their singer is actually a girl, so i guess u cant really deem them faggy in that sense, but whatev, i set the rules ^^)
    Escape the Fate
    Finch
    Thrice
    Alexisonfire
    Saving Joshua
    Underoath
    The Bled
    Remember Eden
    Poison the Well

  • No More SceneXFashionXCore Music for me for a while

    Jan 17 2008, 2h15 por C26000

I'm already sick of that trend and even more when my little brother is trying to be super scene. It stops being cool (the music used to be cool for me ;) ) when an ignorant 13 year old starts saying

    - OMG everybody look at me, I'm sooo emo, I bought everything with checkered pattern, straightened my hair and wear punk studded belts, so I guess I'm the emoest kid in the world!!, please, please!! david, copy me the video of alesana, ambrosia, yeah I know that you showed it to me like a year ago and I didn't like it, but like my equally idiots friends are telling me that it's cool they must be right! -

So basically he ruined that music for me, everytime I listen one of those full-of-scenecers bands I remember this idiot...

whatever...., there are enough good music in the world, I won't miss it while I get used to his shitty look and behavior, thank god I'm leaving home soon..

    Banned Bands:

    A Skylit Drive,akissforjersey,Alesana,Blessthefall,Chiodos,Drop Dead, Gorgeous,Emarosa,Escape the Fate,Greeley Estates,GunsLikeGirls,LoveHateHero,Mozart Season,The Devil Wears Prada,Underoath

anyway Alesana is so two years ago....

Yeah I'm being immature , sooo???

btw: I can't wait for fortress from Protest the Hero :D!!

Some of these CD's I bought without even listening to the band. The Devil Wears Prada is one of them. Ok, they're on a label that I like a majority of the bands on, and a lot of people listen to them. Sure this CD is ok, but whats the big fucking deal? Catherine blows this shit out of the water haha. TDWP is ok and all but it doesn't really have any memorable stuff to it unless its in a car and so loud you can't tell whats going on.

Then, there's good examples. Catherine is one of them haha. Same with TAI (it was like $7 so I bought it, never listened to them before haha), Night Like These, Odd Project, As Cities Burn and Blessthefall (I had heard one song from them before..and I actually didn't like it a whole lot..don't ask why I bought it haha).

So, I really regret buying some of those CD's haha. Some of those are from when I was in 6th grade and earlier [even earlier than that they're not even on there, those CD's are somewhere in my closet haha]. That would basically be Linkin Park and Bon Jovi, not saying they're bad but they don't get near my CD player haha. And if I said it sucked, that doesn't mean the whole CD was bad, just that only one or two songs were good. I should put this in order I bought them, you'd noticed a pattern haha.
    Yea, I'm done.
Note:These are just CD's I physically own, It makes up about 1/4 of my collection haha.

  • Mozart Season

Anyone who has heard this band and liked what they heard knows Mozart Season is the shit. I remember coming across their myspace page somehow about a year ago and liking Cellar Doors, Donnie!, which is a great song. When I read their biography and saw that they broke up recently before that I was surprised because they were so good, and it seemed they had a lot of fans and played with some pretty big bands over the years. I listened to one song I was able to download for some time and when I saw them on this site and saw that people outside of their state were listening to their music I decided to check it out. Well, I went on limewire and found most of their songs, and when you can find a majority of a bands songs on limewire that really shows you how big they are, or how long they've been around, what kind of fan base they have. Needless to say the Mozart Season fan base is pretty fucking huge for a band that wasn't signed. People are still listening today and telling them to get back together. I'm not sure what the members have went off to do after Mozart Season, but it must be bigger than what they were up to considering that if they had stayed together they would've definitely been signed. I think with one more record a little better produced they could've gotten a major deal, because they had everything else pretty much locked down. When I hear their songs I think they really have a sound that in the "scene" has been abused one way or another, but they really have a way of playing it decently and pulling it off, not just sounding like another screamo band. The layers of vocals, those simple guitar licks that we hear in most screamo songs, all of that stuff, they had a way of doing it that gained them a shit load of fans. I remember in about 2002 when they formed (I think, maybe '03) all of the bands in this scene were just coming up and being in a band myself and really liking these types of music I predicted that it was going to blow up, and here we are 4 years later seeing it all over MTV. So with that, it seems that since the scene has been saturated, there are two extremes, the kids who listen to the bullshit on MTV and the kids who are constantly looking for something more obscure so they can say they're so much different than everyone else. Mozart Season seems to play to neither crowd. They just take that screamo, melodic post hardcore, and other influences and pull it off beautifully and get fans doing it the way it was when this music first broke out, making the scene a fun place like it used to be. I honestly don't know what made this band stick out to me so much, I guess there just aren't too many bands like this around anymore, and neither are they. However, thank you Mozart Season.
