    About

For Scott Langley, playing records has always been about transformation and satisfaction for both him and the crowd, by making the room move to where you want it to be, taking the groove and seamlessly making it change. Having graced the decks with some of the biggest names in the industry and with over 18 years experience under his belt, Scott has delivered his sound in over 20 countries from Mexico to Malaysia to Moscow and events as diverse as Bangkok’s Ministry of Sound, Thailand's infamous Full Moon Parties and Germany’s Love Parade, to name a few. He has also graced over 30 venues in his hometown London, at one point holding down a staggering 20 residencies in the capital.

Scott’s cutting-edge house sound runs through both his DJ sets and more recently his productions too, joining the dots between soulful house to deep-tech, tribal, and progressive - always fresh, always with a funk edge, it is a complete mixture of emotion, mood and feeling, filled with inspiration!

This lad has over 100 productions signed and now brings Moody Man and Change Your Mind to Plastica Recordings' 43rd outing. Both are confident pounding tracks, but travel separate paths.

  • UMMMMM Music Meme duh.

    Jun 17 2008, 4h32 por Mukk0n

stolen from Mat Sherman on fb.

    1. How did you get into 29?
    TIE
The Faint- This may or may not be a reaccuring theme but...BOBBY...I think?
Armor for Sleep - I honestly have no idea.

    2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?
Daft Punk - Probably 'TocarHarder, Better, Faster, Stronger' since that's the most popular.

    3. What’s your favorite lyric by 33?
The Format - Hmmm, that's a tough one.

Probably from 'Wait, Wait, Wait' on Interventions and Lullabies:

    "and these chords remain
we'll use them to exploit the
    friends we've since forgot
    those friends we've lost
you all know just who you are"

    4. What is your favorite album by 49?
Matt Pond PA - Umm...I don't really have one because I don't listen to them all that often. That's on my list probably because I listened to them hardcore when they were coming to Tech with Mae and all them.

    5. How many albums by 13 do you own?
The Academy Is... - physical? None. On the computer? All of them :).

    6. What is your favorite song by 50?
    Air - 'TocarDon't Be Light'.

    7. Is there a song by 39 that makes you sad?
Regina Spektor - UM YES. 'TocarSamson'. I've literally listened to that song like five times in a row before and about a hundred times in my lifetime.

    8. What is your favorite album by 15?
    Sherwood - A Different Light - it's so catchy.

    9. What is your favorite song by 5?
The Academy Is... - TIE - 'TocarAttention' or 'Phrase That Pays' or 'Neighbors'.

    10. Is there a song by 6 that makes you happy?
Panic at the Disco - lately? 'Nine in the Afternoon'. Reminds me of summer.

    11. What is your favorite album by 40?
The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin.

    12. What is your favorite song by 10?
The Decemberists - '16 Military Wives', 'O Valencia', or 'Eli the Barrow Boy'.

    13. What is a good memory you have involving 30?
    TIE
The Faint - the song 'Sex Is Personal' reminds me of hanging out with Bobby freshman year in the dormssss.
Armor for Sleep - introducing someone to this band but I forget who...ughhh.

    14. What is your favorite song by 38?
Feist - THIS IS HARD. 'L'Amour Ne Dure Pas Toujours' for the awesomeness of the beat, not for the preteniousness of liking a french song by an English singer.

    15. Is there a song by 19 that makes you happy?
As Tall as Lions - 'Love, Love, Love' because it's so entirely epic.

    16. How many times have you seen 25 live?
Spitalfield - NONE BUT I WISH. Can we say high energy?

    17. What is the first song you ever heard by 23?
Panic! At the Disco - Easily their single 'TocarI Write Sins Not Tragedies'. After their second CD, it's any wonder I actually got into them because the first CD sucks A LOT compared to the second.

    18. What is your favorite album by 11?
The New Pornographers - I'm gonna go ahead and be pretenious and say their older stuff is better with Mass Romantic. Actually, I'm going to rephrase. They stayed the same. They did not mature because they were kinda perfect from the beginning. Fucking epic backgrounds with awesome lyrics. Not much to fix so it just became more of the same stuff but I'M OK WITH THAT!

    19. Who is a favorite member of 1?
Stars - Don't even have to look at the list. AMY AMY AMY AMY. She's so wonderful with her awkward hand movements and being drunk on stage!

    20. Have you ever seen 14 live?
Imogen Heap - Nope and I honestly don't think it would be any good. Don't know what she would do on stage really.

    21. What is a good memory involving 27?
The Starting Line - high school listening to 'Best of Me' and finding lyrics that would suit my current boyfriend (Hayden) at the time and I's relationship. God I was so emotional at that time in my life. I still love that song though.

    22. What is your favorite song by 16?
Fall Out Boy - 'Where is Your Boy Tonight?' - It's so disgustingly simple but I DON'T CARE SHOVE IT.

    23. What is the first song you ever heard by 47?
Damien Rice - 'Blower's Daughter'. I'm surprised this isn't high to be honest. I'm addicted to that song, it's my current text message alert sound on my phone!

    24. What is your favorite album by 18?
Copeland - In Motion because it has 'Pin Your Wings Back' and 'TocarLove Is A Fast Song'.

    25. What is your favorite song by 21?
Hellogoodbye - 'Here in Your Arms' or 'touchdown turnaround'.

    26. What is the first song you ever heard by 26?
Eisley - First song I remember recognizing? 'TocarLaughing City'.

    27. What is your favorite album by 3?
Rilo Kiley - More Adventurous because it has A 'Man/Me/Then Jim' but The Execution of All Things is a close second.

    28. What is your favorite song by 2?
The Rocket Summer - I really have to make this choice? There's so many - 'Cross My Heart', 'Mean Thoughts and Cheap Shots', 'Brat Pack', 'So Much Love', 'Around The Clock', and 'Goodbye Waves and Driveways'.

    29. What was the first song you ever heard by 32?
Race The Sun - 'Icarus with All Sincerity' - that song was delicious live.

    30. What is your favorite song by 8?
The Spill Canvas - 'The Tide' easily. I wrote a friggin' analysis paper on it for crying out loud. It's pretty whiny and epic.

    31. How many times have you seen 17 live?
Girlyman - neverrrr but it'd be pretty neat.

    32. Is there a song by 44 that makes you happy?
Acceptance - 'TocarPermanent' because it makes me wanna dance.

    33. What is your favorite album by 12?

Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism because it has 'Passenger Seat'.
Cute Is What We Aim For - kinda unfair since they only came out with one: The Same Old Blood Rush with a New Touch.

    34. What is the worst song by 45?
Cartel - dunno any bad ones really.

    35. What was the first song you ever heard by 34?
Belle & Sebastian - 'step into my office baby' because it's the first song on the first album I heard by them :).

    36. What is your favorite album by 48?
Ted Leo and The Pharmacists- Shake the Sheets because I listened to the shit out of it and love 'TocarMe and Mia' and 'TocarThe Angels' Share'.

    37. How many times have you seen 42 live?
Ben Folds - once and it was epic. He has amazinggggg stage presence.

    38. What is your favorite song by 36?
Bjork - listening to her now! Crazy bitch. I don't have a favorite, I just like listening to her on random.

    39. What was the first song you ever heard by 28?
    TIE
The Starting Line - who knows, listened to them wayyyy back in high school.
Bloc Party - 'Helicopter' freshman year at a Young Dems party at Erik Benoist's house where I danced to it like three times. Fond memories.

    40. What is your favorite album by 7?
The Hush Sound - Honestly, I love a bunch of songs from all three of their albums. If I had to pick? Like Vines I think.

    41. Is there a song by 31 that makes you happy?
The Arctic Monkeys - 'Riot Van' because it's a departure from their normal stuff. It's slow and such.

    42. What is your favorite album by 41?
Ministry of Sound - Don't really have a unique sound, it's just generic techno. Can't choose any.

    43. What is your favorite song by 24?
JamisonParker - ALL OF THEM ARE GOOOOD / I don't know how to distinguish their songs because they are all the same epic punk.

1997 - sharing them with my friend Amanda and discovering them through JENNNNIFFEERRRRR.

Vampire Weekend - easily 'A-Punk'. That song is ridiculously catchy and the video is so fun.

    46. Is there a song by 9 that makes you happy?
Margot and the nuclear so and so's. Not really, they are pretty depressing. I do love the line:

"And Sarah screamed your every breath is a gift
If you weren't so selfish than you might want to live"
I dunno, just demonstrating the fact that suicide is extremely selfish strikes a random chord with me.

    47. What is your favorite album by 4?
Motion City Soundtrack - Commit This to Memory for oldies, Even If It Kills Me for newies.

    48. Who is a favorite member of 37?
Beulah - I always fuck up the spelling of this band FOR NO REASON AT ALL IT'S SIMPLE. Anyways, I don't know members of this band. I do love trumpets though so I pick the trumpet player!

    49. What is the first song you ever heard by 43?
Rediscover - 'Baby Got Her Gun Out' - super fast catchy heavy-on-the-synth synth-pop.

    50. How many albums do you own by 20?
Dashboard Confessional - physical? None. Computer? ALL OF THEM I LOVE HIM.

I can't believe I took the time to format that. Will anyone even read this?

  • Why your favourite artist sucks

    Jan 24 2008, 4h48 por Richaod

Mostly white teenage Australian males share far too many overrated artists... so in order to cure everyone of their collective musical inferiority, I've decided to educate them.

    The culprits:

    Coldplay (more specifically, Clocks):
Rhythmically the most boring band in the world. That's not an opinion - that's a fact. Basically every single one of their songs is a mid-tempo soft-rocker, with either guitar or piano playing continuous eighth notes. Sometimes fourth notes. Need proof?

    Superiors:
Jeff Buckley - Coldplay wish they could make sensitive music
Radiohead - Coldplay wish they could be innovative
Muse - Coldplay wish they could be a post-Britpop band with ENERGY!
Tori Amos - Coldplay wish they could play the piano nearly as well

    Powderfinger:
Not really derivative, but fairly generic, faceless, totally unchallenging Australian rock. If you wanted to synthesize stereotypical mainstream Australian rock, this is what you'd get. Bernard Fanning says it himself in Lost and Running, apparently without any sense of irony: "I was tired of listening to the same old chords." THEN QUIT THE BAND!
    Superiors:
Neil Young - Powderfinger wish they named themselves after a song by a shitter artist so they'd sound better in comparison
Silverchair - Powderfinger wish they were Australia's best modern rock band
Midnight Oil - Powderfinger wish they could be political
Crowded House - Powderfinger wish they weren't playing the same old chords

    Red Hot Chili Peppers:
They've been doing the same alternative funk rock for about 25 years, whilst unfortunately resisting the urge to become an awesome jazz fusion power trio - which they are totally capable of. Apparently Frusciante writes good solo albums too! But no, with RHCP he just does his slightly minimalistic guitar non-riffage, which Flea's forced to make up for... Chad Smith looks like Will Ferrell, and Anthony Kiedis is still an aspiring rapper, or is that aspiring singer? The only thing that's changed is that they're no longer writing songs with titles like "Party On Your Pussy" and my favourite - "The Uplift Mofo Party Plan". How impressive.
    Superiors:
Faith No More - Red Hot Chili Peppers wish they were diverse enough to not be solely labelled "funk rock"
Rage Against the Machine - John Frusciante wishes he played riffs/could make weird noises; Anthony Kiedis wishes he could rap

    Green Day:
THEY WROTE A POLITICAL CONCEPT ALBUM!!! All their music is plain four-chord rock I could improvise in the same time it takes to play. Except maybe Jesus of Suburbia.
    Superiors:
My Chemical Romance - Green Day wish they wrote a better pop-punk-masquerading-as-classic-rock concept album
Rage Against the Machine - Green Day wish they were political
AFI - Green Day wish Holiday had brutal black metal screams in it so Miss Murder didn't sound like a BETTER ripoff
Against Me! - PROTEST SONGS. IN RESPONSE TO MILITARY AGGRESSION.

    Linkin Park:
Uhh, in case my thirtteen-year-old self kills me, I'll refrain from commenting. I like them for nostalgic purposes. But they're not metal.
Apparently these superior bands are nu-metal:
Dream Theater - they went heavier, SELLOUTS!
Metallica - they couldn't maintain their awesomeness for more than ten years, SELLOUTS!
Nightwish - they used an orchestra and kicked out their opera singer so they must sound like Evanescence. SELLOUTS!
In Flames - they started writing songs in a minor key! SELLOUTS! Apparently someone realized they'd been playing detuned guitars and using screamed vocals all along, so they're now nu-metal.

    Avril Lavigne:
She used to want to establish some "mature" image. Now that she's over the age of 20 and married, she wants to go back to being some bubblegum-chewing, bratty suburbian rich-kid teen with pink streaks in her hair. Also, collaborating with some hotshot professional songwriter (they are all total scum) with a weird name like Lukasz Gottwald does not mean you write your own songs. Neither does ripping off The Rubinoos' "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend".
    Superiors:
Paramore - Avril wishes she could sing AND write her own songs. Hayley Williams is setting her plans in motion...
The Veronicas - You know there's actually only one of them? You can do a lot with mirrors.
The Rubinoos - Avril wishes she wrote the chorus of Girlfriend
Me - Avril wishes Girlfriend was originally written from the perspective of an obsessed stalker

    Ace of Base:
For some reason everyone by default has only two Ace of Base songs. Even I do. No idea why.

    50 Cent:
This is rap? To paraphrase some genuine acclaimed journalist, his appeal lies in the fact that he can seem gangsta to the gullible kids whilst seeming like harmless party music to the adults. If you listen to him, you're the successful target of a marketing strategy based on his image. Your opinion is manufactured. Yay.
    Superiors:
Kanye West - 50 Cent wishes he could've sold more copies of his album. This isn't exactly far out of reach, so not listening to him if you like 50 Cent is unforgivable.
Public Enemy - 50 Cent wishes he was the epitome of rap
Eminem - 50 Cent wishes he could act

    Timbaland:
Like the bubonic plague, IT'S EVERYWHERE!!!!

    James Blunt:
I'm not even going to honor this one with a comment.
    Superiors: everyone, but more specifically:
Jeff Buckley - James Blunt wishes he was the best musician with the initials JB (don't forget Jack Black, John Butler, Jason Becker, Jeff Beck...)
Muse - James Blunt wishes he could sing in falsetto
Antony and the Johnsons - James Blunt wishes he was transgendered so he could be more feminine
Crazy Frog - James Blunt wishes he was as annoying

    Ministry of Sound:
If you listen to these compilations, this means three things:
    1. You listen to really bad repetitive club music. You probably call it "doof-doof" and pump it out of massive subwoofers in a complete bomb of a car.
    2. You don't even know WHAT shitty techno to listen to - you need it shoved down your throat.
    3. You have no individual characteristics whatsoever. You are totally stereotypical.
    Superiors:
Daft Punk - You wish you'd hopped on the superior electronica bandwagon

    Wolfmother, Jet and Airbourne:
    File under "derivative".
    Superiors:
Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple - Wolfmother wish they were the real thing with a less obnoxious voice
Oasis - Jet wish they were a first-rate ripoff of the Beatles
AC/DC - Airbourne wish they'll have a 30-year-long career selling millions of copies of albums that sound the same

If you've read through this entire thing and I haven't offended you, please mention your favourite mainstream artists so you don't feel left out.

To sum up: My apologies, I failed to be extremely egotistical. I'm just not cut out to be as arrogant as a bunch of noise elitists. I'm sorry that I tried to educate a bunch of people who know even less than I do whilst also being entertaining.

However if you feel reading that was a waste of time then it's your fault that you're wasting even more time by replying/trolling.
  • Electronica & Me

    Dez 27 2007, 3h00 por Tremulant_

Electronic music has become part of my life in a big way. since hearing artists like Aphex Twin and Justice, I have begun to collect as much music in the genre as possible, and have been inspired by the beats and synths in these disks to make my own music, (under the name Latent Image), heavily influenced by the genre. No other style of music has had an impact on me this profound… And not only is it what I listen to, Electronic is a lifestyle and a whole scene is associated with it.

It is a shame that has become corrupted and is often lumped in with the genres of pop and hip-hop, and has been associated purely with the image of a metro scenester popping pills in a nightclub. Listening to some of the classics of the genre, I find it hard to believe just how diverse it really is.

Here are some examples of the bands which are the reason that I love the style so much.

I’ll start with the first Electronic band that I ever liked, Aphex Twin. My brother told me about this creepy music video for a song called ‘Come to Daddy’. It sounded pretty interesting, so I watched it on YouTube, and ever since Richard D. James has remained my favourite musician of the last 100 years. I have said before that I think he is the most naturally gifted musician since Ludwig van Beethoven, and I fully believe that.

Listening to one of the classic electronic albums, his debut Selected Ambient Works 85-92, you are carried away on an endless stream of slick beats and laid-back bass lines, from the beautiful openers Xtal and TocarTha, to the acidic Delphium, the album is a pure classic, and shows how Richard D. James has captured in his debut album the sound that Brian Eno couldn’t in a lifetime.

Another band that brings you into a seemingly endless is Underworld. The duo create incredibly catchy hooks purely with a single word repeated over a pounding beat, and the way this is executed makes songs like Cowgirl and the classic Born Slippy.NUXX amazing achievements is any genre.

If Electronica were , then Justice would surely be the Sex Pistols… The French duo infuse their huge, loud, beats with splices of distortion so that the synthesizers become the equivalent of an overdriven guitar… I mean, just take a look at their live rig:

And their groovy bass lines in songs like DVNO and Phantom deliver stylized electro the likes of which you have never heard.

Of course, you can’t have rock and electronic comparisons without giving mention to the classic Daft Punk, who, with their seminal album Homework converted a whole generation of kids to the electronic genre, and gave inspiration to thousands to buy a synthesizer and try to replicate some of the amazing sounds, from songs like Da Funk.

One man obviously heavily influenced by them, as well as the and of bands like Sonic Youth is James Murphy, owner of record label DFA and lead singer and beat-wizard of LCD Soundsystem. With their infectious and y grooves, and Murphy’s witty and tongue-in-cheek lyrics, LCD Soundsystem are an addictive and energetic band that have slowly creeped their way to the top of my charts, because I can’t go a day without hearing songs like TocarGet Innocuous!, TocarDaft Punk Is Playing At My House or the brilliant Losing My Edge.

From these rock-influenced electronic acts, I’ll mention the poppier side of things. For more than a decade, the beats that will be blasting out of every clubs speakers in the next year has been decided by the ridiculously anticipated Annual Compilation from Ministry of Sound. The double or triple disk sets contain the best hooks around, and even over the course of a year, you will not grow tired of hits like Armand van Helden's TocarI Want Your Soul.

A band that I had regarded as pop for a long time, but who have recently caught my attention with their debut Felt Mountain are Goldfrapp. The hauntingly beautiful vocals unfolding over the dense and artistic beats on this album are insanely catchy and surprisingly deep and dark.

Of course, as with every genre there are extremes. I’ll refer again to Aphex Twin who after his earlier efforts helped pioneer the genres of , and . His more extreme efforts such as revolutionary Richard D. James Album contain a frenetic energy and warped style that had never been done as effectively before. His newest effort Drukqs is a excellent example of his diversity, with beautiful piano pieces like Avril 14th and songs like Vordhosbn, Mt. Saint Michel Mix+St. Michaels Mount and 54 Cymru Beats are full of wall shaking beats and incredibly technical and layered synths and sound effects.

Another artist in the (Intelligent Dance Music) genre are a band I am just recently starting to listen to, Venetian Snares. The haunting strings on the album Rossz Csillag Alatt Született give way to fractured and demented breakbeats delivered with purpose and executed with an amazing sensibility. Songs like the epic TocarSzamár Madár and TocarKétsarkú Mozgalom showcase both the beauty and the menace in this genre.

Throughout all these styles is a feeling of drive and purpose, and each of these albums and songs are made with passion and originality. is and ever-changing and ever-present genre, and it has changed my life.

    Let it change yours too.
