abril 2009I can still remember standing on the platform at Burley Park station in Leeds sometime in 1991, waiting for the train to work. I'd borrowed this cassette and was listening on my walkman. I couldn't wait until lunchtime so that I could buy the CD. When John Coltrane comes in for his solo it's like being reborn. I had the privilege of listening to Jimmy Cobb with Wallace Roney and Bennie Green play the entire album as a tribute in a beautiful garden in Paris for just 10 francs in 2000 at the Paris Jazz Festival. Sheer bliss!!

abril 20092009 marks the 50th Anniversary of the original release date of Miles Davis’ Kind Of Blue. Legendary jazz drummer, Jimmy Cobb (the only surviving member from the original recording) leads a contemporary all-star band featuring Wallace Roney (trumpet), Javon Jackson (tenor saxophone), Vincent Herring (alto saxophone), Larry Willis (piano), and Buster Williams (bass.) The group will perform their interpretations of Kind of Blue’s five masterpieces: “So What”, “Freddie Freeloader”, “Blue In Green”, “All Blues”, and “Flamenco Sketches” plus other classics by Davis, John Coltrane, Julian “Cannonball” Adderley, and original compositions inspired by this era.
