The misspelled page for Bags' Groove has more listens than the correctly spelled one. Fix your tags people, the apostrophe goes after "Bags".

I didn't mean it too seriously ;-) I really love Miles Davis AND Frank Zappa. I think both of them didn't know what the other was doing and they both "invented" it simultaneously. Btw Zappa recorded "Uncle Meat" October 1967-February 1968, and "King Kong" could be also be seen as fusion ;-)

@ Goatlordlord IN A SILENT WAY, the first MILES DAVIS jazz fusion was Released in July 30, 1969 and recorded in February 18, 1969. Frank Zappa's HOT RATS was released in October 10, 1969 and Recorded July 18 - August 30, 1969. Both albums are great by the way.

  • Goatlordlord

@jpzitoleopold: Frank Zappa invented jazz fusion with his 1969 album "Hot rats"!

I don't understand what's the point of those guys writing negative things about MIles Davis. Lady Gaga has lots of plays, I have never played her and I never wrote anything in her page because I don't care at all.

WaldoJeffers_X and it also doesn't mean they are the worst in their field....what exactly is your point? Btw, "best" is a highly subjective term.

    maio 2014
  • WaldoJeffers_X

The fact that he has so many listeners means nothing. The Beatles and Mozart have a lot of plays too, because they are very famous, that doesn't mean that they were THE BEST in what they did.

David, Miles Davis has more listens because his music, especially his fusion stuff, appeals to rock fans, not just jazz fans. To call bitches brew a 'marketing ploy' is to totally misunderstand one of the greatest albums of the '60s.

    maio 2014
  • jpzitoleopold

    but he invented jazz fusion

    maio 2014
  • DavidSmith98

Also, no Miles did not invent Cool Jazz. That is a Gerry Mulligan album, and even at that Bix Beiderbecke was playing Cool Jazz in the 1920s (For No Reason At All in C).....

How Miles has more plays than Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, etc combined... is really something I will never understand... Listen to Billie's Bounce... he cannot even maintain his tone! Great player, but let's be real... there were others before and after him who were equal if not superior. Kind of Blue is a masterpiece. Bitches Brew was a great marketing ploy for the woodstock generation, and I guess it succeeded, as for me multiple spliced up jams is not exactly interesting when you can listen to a variety of other incredible jazz. End of Rant.

I think that the ones that say "come to Brazil" or wherever are not showing respect for someone who has made great music and has been dead since 1991. Please people if you have so good taste to admire and listen to Miles Davis, respect his memory and legacy. Thanks

I've just discovered Big Fun.. WOW. I'd heard a handful of the tunes on other "Complete" edition releases, but this album is possibly fighting Get Up With It as my favorite electric Miles album. It's got that ambient flavor of In A Silent Way crossed with the wiry exploration on Bitches Brew and GUWI... amazing.

I was asked a while back who my single desert island artist would be. After a month or two debating whether it would be Kraftwerk, Scott Walker or Miles Davis, I chose Miles. From those first performances with Charlie Parker through to Amandla, I have it all and love the vast majority of it. I've enjoyed his work for three decades so far, here's to many more.

Bitches Brew is Miles at his best. I just love it's bubbling, boiling ferment of sound with ideas popping up all over, the album rolls like an endless wave.
