Large Professor Main Source Album Release Party, with special guests
DJ Muggs &
Planet Asia,
People Under the Stairs (DJ Set),
Vendetta Kingz, with special guest appearances all night
8:30 PM, $15 advance, $18 day of show
As a founding member of NY hip hop group Main Source, Large Professor put out a classic straight outta the gate. Since then, his sound has become an institution; you can hear it on Nas’ “It Ain’t Hard to Tell,” A Tribe Called Quest’s “Keep it Rollin’”, nearly all of Kool G Rap and DJ Polo’s Wanted: Dead or Alive. His productions in the mid-Nineties defined the term ‘boom bap,’ and gives a clear idea of what to expect from his first LP in over three years, Main Source. He’s enlisted emcees such as Jeru the Damaja, Lil’ Dap, Big Noyd, and Styles P. No skits, no songs based around dances, no forced collabos dreamed up by A&R—Just beats, rhymes and life.

"We just play exactly what we want to hear," explains Dan O’Conner, referring to Four Year Strong’s combination of hardcore and pop-punk. Sharing an average age of 20 years old, these five bearded guys have already self-released an EP, making themselves known on the Smartpunk Top 100 sales and Purevolume's "most played" charts. The band built their own stage sets, booked their own tours, and made their own music their way. The debut full-length, Rise or Die Trying, premieres September 18th on I Surrender Records. Already, the album has generated an excited buzz across the web, with over 45,000 plays on each Purevolume and Myspace with nothing more than a taste of what Rise or Die Trying will bring.

La Tremenda Korte is named after an influential Cuban radio show that starred the character Tres Patines, a sort-of Mexican Charlie Chaplin. LTK is one of the most enduring bands to emerge from Mexico City's early-‘90s ska movement. Over the years they have matured into very good musicians, and have participated in many important cultural festivals such as the 2001 Afrocaribbean festival in Veracruz. Their latest album, Frecuencia Rebelde, is a fun and creative mix of rock ‘n’ roll, ska, and high flying horns, displaying the spicy sarcasm exemplified by Mexican bands such as Cafe Tacuba and Maldita Vecindad.
