With another year coming to a close, it is time to sit back and refelct on what has happened. We saw "occupy" take on a new meaning as the proletariat class attempted to right the wrongs committed by an unregulated financial monster. We witnessed Google strive to become the next behemoth of social media, aspiring to do to Facebook what it had done to Myspace and Friendster. We marked the death of a visionary, only to see his legend live on with the unveiling of a disappointment to most, the iPhone 4S, not 5. And in music, you watched the rise of both talented (Adele) and talentless (Rebecca Black) singers, to successes no longer thought possible in the music industry, thanks to both viral videos and an ever more discerning ear from the public. Again it is time for me to attempt to sift through the masses of shit, and deliver the golden kernels of joy that I thought delivered something unique in a year laden with letdowns. …

Tauron Nowa Muzyka 2011 - relacja
Set 4 2011, 21h50 por audiovisualcity
Czw 25 VIII – Tauron Festiwal Nowa Muzyka 2011
Spóźniona relacja z najlepiej nagłośnionego festiwalu, jaki dane mi było odwiedzić podczas tegorocznego lata.
Nim o koncertach, kilka kwestii ogólnych.
Ceny = 2 światy : jedzenie - beznadzieja, napoje - w porządku (nawet bardzo).

Review: Battles - Gloss Drop
Jun 11 2011, 13h30 por Atitlan
Gloss Drop was always going to be a different proposition to Mirrored - the departure of Tyondai Braxton took with it the distinctive processed vocals that helped make Mirrored such a strange and beguiling listen. Gloss Drop, then, had to take a different direction.
Most tracks on the album are instrumental; vocal duties have been taken up on four tracks by guests.
The album's opener, Africastle, is an instrumental and sounds reassuringly like Battles of old, but even here there's a different feel - a little more conventional; dare I say even a little poppier. There's a little more melody than in the past which softens the sound - this is common throughout the album and leads to Gloss Drop lacking the impact of its predecessor.
OK, so it's not Mirrored, but is it any good?
Second track, Ice Cream, is the first track with a guest vocalist and whilst it reinforces the fact that Battles have changed, it also confirms that they are still capable of producing great music. Yes, Gloss Drop, is another fine album. … -
Tuesday Ten: Tracks of the Month (March)
Abr 5 2011, 20h42 por amodelofcontrol
Where on earth is time going? Time once again for my usual monthly roundup of great new songs.
Track of the month:
Battles
Ice Cream
Gloss Drop
They are back at last, and christ this is odd. But then, it is Battles. The first band to make post-rock, or at least their highly technical take on it, sound truly fun on their last album Mirrored (I challenge you not to listen to Race:In or particularly
Atlas, one of my top tracks of 2007, without a smile on your face), despite losing a band member it's abundantly clear from the lead single from the new album that we're about to see more of the same. Guest vocalist Matias Aguayo appears to have enormous fun contorting his voice around the odd sounds developing around him - and manages to help the song come to life initially with what sounds like an imitation of a steam train! This is infectious, summery music, and I can only hope the rest of the album continues in the same wide-eyed vein. If anyone can do it, Battles can.

Read the Bastard!
Last year’s year-end retrospectives saw much proclamation of the death of minimalism, and while it has quieted down a bit (pun intended), with the exception of a few notables releases on Echospace, Modern Love, and the like, not much has come along to take its place (least of all some kind of maximalism). Deep house (Moodymann, Black Jazz Consortium) continued to get deep, electro had a few surprise knockouts (Harmonic 313, Linkwood, DJ Hell), several noteworthy supergroups synergized their talents (Moritz von Oswald Trio, Lindstrom and Prins Thomas, Moderat), and big ballers pumped out adequate though hardly compulsory releases (Basement Jaxx, Röyksopp, Simian Mobile Disco). … -
Best Songs of 2010
Dez 26 2010, 21h55 por websheldon
...and just a few from earlier :)
I couldn't write a list of my favourite albums of the year because I only have 2!! haha However, I did love loads of songs this year, and have whittled my favourites down to the list below and written a little about each of them...
Disc 1 - After Dark
1. After Dark (Feat. Mystery Jets) - The Count & Sinden
Sexy voice and very 'Mothership-py' lyrics... This was a bit of a theme tune for many nights of debauchery this year. I thought I hadn't heard of The Count until a Lily Allen remix and then I found out it's Joshua "Hervé" Harvey. Alias Losers. Pffff. Hmm maybe I should have an alias... ;-)
2. Stereo Love (Feat. Vika Jigulina) - Edward Maya
Since I am mostly completely detached from the media (radio / tv / newspapers) it's good to hang out with someone who knows some of the popular hits out there too - Jesus suggested this track one night in Summer this year and I loved it straight away. …
