I won't say that the lyrics is what matters the most to me in a song because that wouldn't be completely true. After all, I listen to songs in Greek, Arabic, German, among others, and I understand very little or nothing in these languages. But lyrics DO count a lot when I can understand them.
Sometimes I really like a song but am unable to make all the lyrics out, so I go find it and when I read it some of that passion dies a little because the lyrics aren't that great. The other way around is possible too, I might love the song even more if the lyrics end up being great.
What is funny about lyrics is what everyone of us thinks is a masterpiece, or, at least, good lyrics. I always remember my mom saying that Wish You Were Here
was stupid after reading its lyrics translated into Portuguese. I was baffled. Wish You Were Here is one of the songs I think has one of the most touching lyrics ever but my mom couldn't see it. Of course, having it translated might have affected her judgement…
